Hi, I’ve been smoking for 13 years now and I’m just so nervous and scared about quitting. I’ve attempted many times and nothing. Would love to have some support so have come on here. I’ve got chimpax and gum I just feel like it’s been a part of my life since I was 17 it’s going to be really weird and hard.

Thanks.

Beky,

Great that you have posted on here!

I know it is hard as it took me a few attempts before I put forth my first post 😊

I am on my 45 Day of quitting.

Yeah, it’s been hard, sleepless nights, etc, etc.

Beky, pls perservere you are so worth it.

It’s gonna be hard for the next few weeks but then it just gets better.

I now can take a big deep breath, the whites of my eyes are no longer blue, I can walk up my front stairs without puffing. Yes it is hard but so so worth it! Day one seems so hard but once you get past that you can pat yourself on the back girlfriend coz you are in control and though it is hard it is doable xx

Hello Beky, Welcome!

==> ABOUT THIS SITE: You have come to the right place for support. I think you get the best help by hanging out at this site and just keep reading and learning. Make it a daily habit (for the beginning anyway). Some of these posts are a perfect match to your own personal story, so you are not alone. Another benefit is to post. Post how you are doing as all of us are behind you no matter how your journey is going. Sometimes you just need a comment to cheer you on. Sometimes you might need advise. Sometimes you might just need to yell out your frustrations, or yell out your happiness. Sometimes you might want to post to cheer others on. Thank goodness some of the seasoned non-smokers come back and post to help us not so seasoned non-smokers and it does a world of good (for me anyway).

==> ABOUT YOUR QUIT: Chimpax, gum or whatever. Everyone is different. The main thing is, you are ready to quit. You got the nerve up to post and that solidifies a lot about your true desire to quit. Be proud of yourself right now! I do believe I only posted when I KNEW I was really ready to be serious about quitting. Attempting many times is part of many people's start. Some take only one try (the lucky ones!).

==> MY OPINION ABOUT QUITTING: Some have an easy time, some do not. Prepare yourself to expect urges. Truly believe YOU WANT TO QUIT. Believe you want to quit much more than you want to smoke. If you experience cravings, just remember there is no pain, just pain like hunger pains. They are just thoughts and they go away. If you feel like you are going to have a smoke, just wait for 1 hour. Most likely after the 1 hour arrives, you will not even feel like a cigarette.

I'm certainly no expert, but I can only suggest quit in the morning (that way you already have hours being a non-smoker), and quit for one hour at a time until day #1 is done, then day #2. One hour at a time, one day at a time. YOU CAN DO THIS BEKY!!! WE ARE BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY!

Best of luck Beky.

I concur with NOPE to start in the morning. About 93% of the nicotine is out of the system. Drinking water not only helps keep you busy, but helps get rid of it faster. In about 72 hours the nicotine is gone since the last delivery, whether from NRT or cigarettes. We still need to deal with the years of habit and thinking that we need to smoke. Learn that we do NOT need to smoke, as neither it nor nicotine did anything for us. Nicotine just kept us hooked to avoid the cravings. We broke the cycle and so can you.

It can even be easy as I and some others have found. It was certainly not as terrible as I had expected, nor my daughters nor my husband.'s quits.

Think positive. If life is better after quitting, why are you scared? You aren't afraid of failing, because here you are AGAIN. Good for you for not giving up. You have come to a great site, and I believe that once you believe you can quit you will. Many like myself never thought we would ever quit, but seeing others succeed lent hope. I know you will quit if you read , learn and stay with us.

I actually can’t believe how amazing it was to see I received 3 comments on here. I never thought anyone would reply.

Thank you so much for all of your advise and support. It really means a lot to me.

You’re right, I shouldn’t be scared but instead excited.

The main reason I am quitting is because I want to have kids soon and I constantly think I am dying! Bit of a hypochondriac over there! Lol

But again, thank you for the comments of support and I will be posting again now that I know I have it!

WE CAN DO IT!
