It has to stop

I've been smoking on & off since my teens, I'm now 54. I quit when I was pregnant & the worst thing I could have done was pick up a cigarette when my son was 11 months old. He is now almost 12 & I have been trying to kick them ever since. I smoke 1-3 a day, I know it isn't much but I just don't want to go there any more. I was doing ok up until 4 years ago, I was smiking a couple of time a week maybe. Then mum moved into our granny flat & her being a smoker meant they are always available. She was diagnosed with lung cancer today & given a life expectancy of a few months. Today more than ever I need to see the back of this habit, I keep imagining putting my son & partner thru what is going to be a painful journey & I can't think of anything worse. I've had 2 cigarettes today & I dearly want them to be the last. Wish me luck. I've never been on this site before & I'm hoping I can draw some courage & inspiration to kick the habit.

Hi freeze and welcome.
So sorry to hear of your mum.

Its very hard. And it does hit home when it happens to your family member.
Have a fresh start tomorrow and be free from that addiction
It's an awful thing smoking but if your really determined to do it you will succeed.
Be positive and think of all the benifits you will get out of been free.
Your on a great site here with lots of support

Have faith in yourself.
Smoking really does nothing for us. It really is all an illusion
No more smelly hair or clothes or bad breath
Money will be saved to buy yourself something nice. 😇❤

Sorry about the circumstancing surrounding your decision to finally quit smoking for good. I would imagine it would make your Mom proud and your family much relieved if you were to do so. You have every reason to quit and absolutely none to continue. Read and learn how others have freed themselves after decades and packs a day. Find your reasons for yourself and believe that you can quit and you will!
