Nervous

I have really young kids, I smoked through both of my pregnancy’s, which is totally shameful, I cut back, absolutely, but that is just a justification that’s really just abhorrent. Sometimes I look at my kids and imagine putting a cigarette in their mouth and the shame is immense.
I never smoke in front of my kids, but the other day my three year old told me I smelt funny and rubbed his nose when he hugged me. I cannot smoke anymore.
I have read all of your stories and am so thrilled to be on this site. I want to quit for myself, I also want to quit for my kids. I loved the statement by someone saying I can always have a cigarette because I can, and I previously always have, but I’m choosing not too anymore.
I have smoked for at least 20 years, between 10-20 a day depending on my stress levels. I can’t imagine what it has done to my body, but I am young, and I believe I can heal from this damage because our bodies are amazing things.
I am already thankful for the support this site offers. Not another puff, happy new year everyone.

Hi Bej, You are already on a terrific start to this journey of freedom since acquiring some knowledge and even deeper desire to quit smoking. It is easy to shun smoking once we open our eyes to what it really is, how we got hooked and understand that nicotine is a drug and addictive, just like heroin. Thankfully it is legal, or maybe unfortunately so.........
It is a slow killer for sure, but our bodies are amazing and can recover greatly. Many will attest as to how their breathing betters almost immediately. My hubby quit, as did my daughter, so I am pleased they followed my example. When we have the belief that we can do something, we will at least then attempt it. With the help of others , a desire, and a positive attitude we are almost certain to succeed. Anyone can quit smoking with the right mindset!

Happy New Year Bej, keep that mindset available to yourself, every day. We need to believe we can help ourselves and not be crippled with shame and addiction to Nicotine. Keep in touch NOPE (not one puff ever) said or written to yourself every day until your mind feels so strong with the acceptance that this is for good, will help you. Stay in touch.

Thanks so much Happiness and softly40. I just cannot believe that quitting smoking is going to be a totally bad time, I just want to see it as a moment in time I look back and am proud of, like so many stories on here. I am tired of being controlled.
This morning I have already enjoyed not washing my dry hands because they smell. Small steps, one at a time!

I have also just joined this site having quit 5 days ago. I had quit before for over 12 years but then started again 2 years ago.
I am just taking one day at a time and doing anything to occupy myself that doesn't require any stress.
Good luck with your journey.

Good luck Funny Face!! We are in this together now. We can do it! Not another Puff ever.

Thanks robn, I am going away tomorrow with family friends and they ALL smoke, this is my ultimate test, but I have been loving my mornings cuddling my sons in my new dressing gown smoke free and I can tell that they love it as well. It’s not easy is it, but it will get easier. One day at a time. :)
