Hi queriwells. I am glad that you too were given the chance to change your lifestyle for the better, and there is no better way than quitting smoking. We all know that and have played Russian Roulette for years. The real problem is FEAR. Not fear of dying from smoking because we know that only happens to someone else and Uncle Harry smoked until he died at 104. Granted, we start to let that fear of dying thought take more root as we age. The real fear is the fear that we cannot quit. Nicotine is an addiction. We were sold a brainwashing by both tobacco companies and the government who taxed the product. Addictions can be broken. We can be "debriefed" as in the movies. Allan Carr's book does a much better job at dispelling the fears.

I am thankful that I quit a year before my stroke and I am sure that I survived and am recovering well due to that fact.

I am now exercising and eating even better. Lots of nuts, seeds, fruit and veggies with fish and poultry. I have lost 15 lbs. Our bodies are our temple. We need to take better care of them.

You can quit smoking . I am sorry it takes some so long to come to that realisation. I was almost one. I am a lucky one. I am now a happy non-smoker.

You are doing well. Keep it up. Think positive and embrace this opportunity.

G'day geriwells. I think Happiness has said it all and so well. After 53 years os smoking, 3 past failed attempts it took very quick diagnosis from a respiratory specialist and a cardiologist that i had C.O.P.D. ( a new nice way to say emphysemia ) and heart failure. Being your average Aussie male it was'nt so much this but more that i couldn't afford to smoke and buy my alcohol all at once so the smokes lost out. Happily today, 110 days free of nicotine, i'm also alcohol free. Apparently one went with the other!! My message here to you is, You Can Do It.
