Two days without a smoke

Posted in Reasons to quit

Due to losing a job and now being unemployed for 6 months I have no choice but to give up smoking, I do detest the government for making it so expensive to smoke, it seems as though the taxing regime forces people to accept misery and suffering. I hope it is only for a short time.

Hi jasengei. I am curious. What do you mean about the taxing system? Why would the government stop increasing the tax if people are willing to continue to smoke and therefore pay the taxes. I wonder if the message is that you really can't afford to keep smoking. The cost of doing so is even greater to the government.

Hi jasengei. I am sorry that quitting smoking is not something that you want to do. That kind of attitude will make it even more difficult. The good news is that you are capable of retraining your mind. Let go the the resentment. You feel that the government is controlling you, but for how long has nicotine controlled you?

Here I, and most of us , i think, believe that the mindset is the key to an easier quit. Read posts and learn. Read Allan Carr's book that I have given the e-link to by clicking on my name and finding the story. Further helpful tips are in my story on about my page 4 or 5 called If You've Given Up Givin Up. Try This! You are here now, make the best of it. Changing how you think of the cigarette and learning to want to quit will make the journey not only easier but lasting.

Think positive. Believe you can and you will.

May i also add or ask if you have ever had someone who quit wish they smoked? Most of us here have only wished that we could quit smoking for decades. We have finally found the desire to quit more than the desire to smoke. For some it took major health issues. Perhaps this turn of events has saved you from that. Though you may resent "having to quit", realizing that you are giving up nothing and getting so much back in return can help. Please read all that you can and learn about yourself and nicotine.

A craving is but a mere thought. Stop wishing you could have a cigarette and use willpower to resist, but adopt the mindset and the ability to control and overcome. You can do this but it will take a change of attitude.

You are off to a great start by being here. We do understand and are here for you. Talk to us. Ask for help. Learn how to embrace this journey and be free. Even you will not regret it.

I have been a smoker for 30 years, and have always wanted to give it up, I guess being in the current situation of being unemployed has forced me to take the bull by the horns. I have tried on previous occasions to quit smoking and it is for this reason that I say it is a difficult journey but a rewarding one. Thankyou for your comments.

It has been proven that we make our own destiny. Some like I , take pride in family and accomplishment and needs or footprints being few while others gage their success by other measures. We are all equal here.

Being unemployed is still of concern to our standard of life. It means change..Whining about it does not give us control., Being open and optimistic can. Think positive. Believe that things do happen for a reason. Quitting smoking is a very positive in your life. Accept it. Maybe it is time......
