Diagnosed with Emphysema after starting to quit
When I decided to quit smoking it was because I wasn't enjoying it as much as I used to and was just smoking because I could. I now unfortunately have a very different reason to stay quit. A couple of days ago I was diagnosed with COPD stage one emphysema, which is a progressive lung disease. I was lucky in a way that it was caught early. Since then i feel like i could really do with a cigarette ... One thought crosses my mind at the time ..."If you cant do it for yourself do it for your kids" and at that point I couldn't even dream of lighting one... I intend to be about for many years to come so need to stay quit and look after myself :)

Hi Dollygann. I'm feeling ok thanks. I went to the doctors with what I thought was possibly a chest infection. Told her the symptoms etc. I was sent for a chest xray that was clear and also booked in for a pulmonary function test which revealed the COPD
Sorry to hear about your health diagnosis. Stay quit for sure. There's a million reasons not to smoke. Great to see you can think of things that help you to stay quit. All the best Mich
Mich69 good that u found it early. If you stay off the smoke. Your lung function can improve and you can live a normal life. You continue to smoke it’s all down hill! Good luck stay positive

For the past few years I have had difficulty working out in yard, then in 2017 it got harder and harder to breathe. After many tests, it was a CT scan that showed COPD, emphysema and scarring in my lungs. I quit smoking 8 years ago but the damage has been done. I got to a point I couldn't catch my breath and was coughing so hard I thought the top of my head would blow off, nothing was really working to help my condition.
