Breathing freely

I think the reason I have failed so dismally in my attempts to quit smoking, even after joining this site, is mostly due to my husband's death and my subsequent grief. I was also trying to quit drinking too much wine at the same time which made it all too hard so I have resumed both habits. I have now set my quit smoking date for tomorrow and will try to moderate the wine. I have a vaporiser so that should help. I always quit smoking easily but also resume easily so staying quit is now the main goal. I have done some meditation sessions and have learned how to focus on breathing. Breathing air instead of smoke will be my tentative way forward.

jellycake,
Books and websites I have read or searched online recommend the four "D's"
Delay
Deep breathing
Do something (stress ball etc...)
Drink water
To help with dealing with cravings until they pass, fresh air and deep breathing does work

Hi Jellycake. Good thing about this site is that you will always get advice / suggestions about quitting methods. Let's face it, the day you have no worries is the day you are no longer living. Have you noticed that however many cigs you devour and inhale, this act never ever solves a problem. Honestly, the cigs couldn't care less. Nothing will change because you choose to bring yourself closer to your maker.. Not to mention your departure from the earth. Honestly, after 863 days I still say No to Margaret Thatcher, the name I gave my nicotine craving. I might have to become an inspirational speaker for other tragics like myself. I can attest to having been one ... If you can realise it is not you telling yourself to light up you may have a better chance. 45 years and going cold turkey I am a bit of an "expert" but never ignore the fact that just one puff will send me back to where I was. Not totally bullet proof, ever. Hope you find what works for you. You really cannot afford to keep smoking.
