Stopping today

I stopped smoking 15yrs ago after my mother was diagnosed with emphysema I was totally cigarette free for at least 10yrs. But then I started having one occasionally when out with smoking friends. Then over time I was more looking forward to having my fly cigarette than actually enjoying my friends company. Now over the last 12 months I have been smoking every day I started with 1 or 2 am now up to 5 or 6 I know this will only increase. I now feel controlled by my smoking as I plan my day around the cigs.I am obsessed with it and it is affecting my life not to mention my health. I have just returned from a 4 day break with my friends and have smoked every day of it at least 10 a day. I need to stop and today's the day . Wish me luck.

Thanks Red for the good advice I'll take it on board. Have made an appointment for smoking cessation at my local GP practice for Thursday have used ecig today so will see what they recommend. I stopped using Allen Cares book last time but have tried and failed with it this time. My insentive is my daughter's wedding April 18 don't want the Smokey face complexion and wrinkles for the big day.

You can do it AnnP. Whenever i feel tempted, i come onto this site and read stories such as yours. We are all with you

Hi AnnP. You would not believe how many times on this site we have reminded each other to remember, once a smoker, always a smoker. It does not matter how many years have passed. I know that at 661 days I could choose the easy reward. We know what that is. And any excuse will do. So sad to read that the nicotine is more "important" than friends. Hope you can find something amazing on the this site as I did. Give the addiction a name. I called mine Margaret Thatcher. Gave up cold turkey and have persevered and the to date succeeded. Never think I am free.,.
