It is time to quit

I just bought a packet of my cigs at Woolies. They cost $29.65. That made me mad. They are going up by $3 every 3 months. It also made me think again, when am I going to quit? I have been smoking since 1981.

Easier said than done. Especially given my life-style choices. I drink beer everyday and smoke when I drink beer. Sure you say, stop drinking beer but I guess I cannot. In order to stop smoking, I have to stop drinking and that seems impossible to me. I have two demons to deal with. Anyone out there the same?

Hi Robert7, mate you are dancing with wolves. Get out of the pen and try not to enter again so to speak. Quitting is hard, i kid you not but if you want to drink that is your business. However you will need to adapt new habits ....with nothing between your fingers. With the money you save on smokes in due time you can really buy something nice and also preserving your health at the same time. Welcome on board Robert..all the best . Cheers.

Hi Robert,
You've got to want to quit - really WANT it - for whatever reasons spur you on to do it
If you find this want you'll find a way to enjoy your beers without smoking
Good Luck and keep posting

Thanks guys, I am still mentally preparing myself for this. Thanks for the support already :-)

Hi Robert, I'm a drinker/smoker. Average 4-6 UDL's a day. Last time I quit smoking I got to 92 days. I made sure even on day 1 that I had a drink so I'd be use to drinking and not smoking and could form a new habit. Although I did cut down my drinking quite a bit. I'm going to do the same thing this time as it worked for me before. You can still enjoy a drink without a smoke. Good luck.

Hi Robert, I'm trying to catch up on everyone's posts. It sounds as though you're ready to quit you just need a catalyst or even an answer. Before I stopped smoking I read Allen Carr's Easy way to Stop Smoking. He suggests you continue to smoke while you read the book, by the end you will have stopped. Perhaps you can use the same method to stop drinking at the same time, I don't see why you couldn't. It's all to do with attitude and changing how you see things. It's very clever. Alternatively you could perhaps go to a reputable hypnotist, I've never tried it but it sounds like you really want to stop both, you're just afraid. All addicts are full of fear, you're not alone and it's perfectly normal. Try Allen Carr's book, you have nothing to lose if you are unable to afford a hypnotist, I have no idea how costly they are. Please keep posting, let us know how you get on and if any of the advice was useful. Keep your chin up, we all know you can do this if you want to.

It has been a week now and I have smoked half of what I normally would in these last 7 days. I do feel a lot better for it, but I also feel that I should not be on this site as here people are telling others about their battles and feeling AFTER giving up, while I am still enjoying the lesser smoking I do.
