This is about to be my 3rd attempt to quit smoking. I know this time I can never have 1 puff ! as this will start me again. It was the hardest thing I had ever done last time and I will remind myself how hard it was. Having that cigarette with friends over a weekend and thinking I could throw them away after the weekend is just rubbish. I have just buried my mother at aged 74 who died of cancer and was a smoker. Hopefully this will be enough determination never to put the filth to my mouth again. !!!!

Hi KimF. Welcome to "the club"... Since you are not a novice when it comes to quitting, you must be aware of the triggers and the no, no's. In honour of your mother, hope you may live a life long past the age of 74. I am sure she will be looking down on you and will be so proud that perhaps her premature passing was a wake up call for you. We only have one life. You truly know how precious that is. Hope to see you back on this site as you post stories about your journey, the ups and downs and your determination to succeed. I know everyone who reads your post hopes you will succeed.

True.

At 57 days of being smoke free but 1 cigarette away from being a smoker.

Samui has summed it up so well. At 405 days smoke free, I know I will always be just 1 cigarette away from being a smoker. How many times have I heard/repeated this onthissite... Oh sotrue
