6 Year Olds Are Smart!

Posted in Reasons to quit
schedule 28 Sep 2015

My 6 year old daughter has been on my case regularly every time I have her. Your smoking makes me cough, I'm allergic to your smoking daddy. You stink daddy, I wish you wouldn't smoke you'll die and the cruncher throwing my packets of smokes in the bin every chance she had (of which I would promptly take out of the bin and smoke) naughty daddy! So last Thursday 24th Sept 2015 to be exact the time came due to $160.00 for smokes and no money this pay to buy. I decided my 6 year old's persistence and smart way of thinking it was time to stop all together and give myself and my daughter a smoke free life once and for all "Good one Daddy!". The image of my daughter throwing my smokes in the bin alone will get me through the tuff times ahead, the money I now have to share with my daughter and the look on her face to see not one naughty smoke in the house well thats the icing on the cake. Fathers are meant to be positive role models for our children and visa versa our children can teach us and role model positive choices. Thank you to my 6 year olds persistence and insight daddy is smoke free for the first time in her life and determined.

HI Jazzy well done, our seven year old proved to be the motivating factor for my husband and myself to give up. You are right about how smart they are. \In the early days of quitting if I was having a bad day she would say "believe in yourself Mumma, you can do this" She made us beautiful star charts which are still going and she wrote special messages on them like "keep strong, I love you Daddy etc" At the end of the day she puts the stars up for us and if we have had a hard day we might get three stars that day. I looked at that chart so many times in the early days and it got me over the line . Remain strong, save your money for special times with your daughter. Its such a confidence booster put put a star on your chart at the end of each day.

Why don't you save up for an amazing holiday you and your daughter can both enjoy, be it Disneyland, Australia Zoo or a camping trip or wotever... With all the money you save it will happen sooner rather than later as opposed to the worst outcome, never. And then you both can plan the next adventure. Must be scary for you and your youngster knowing you are living on the edge... What message are you sending your daughter if you continue to smoke??? good luck and stay strong with your determination to stop smoking.

Change the little things you do. Smoking doesn't take long but you do it lots of times and it adds up. Celebrate by baking a cake. Go to the park. Visualise yourself during the week doing something nice for yourself. The more balanced you are the better it will be for her. She really sounds special.

Good on you Jazzykelly, my daughter was the same, she even put a reminder on my phone every day to 'stop smoking now'. I left it there to remind me that she needs me to be there for her as she grows up! My husband smokes also and I think my kids will be alone when we both die prematurely of smoking related diseases! I can't bare to think of the heartache they will have to go through watching us die, my son is only 6! Good on you for doing the hardest thing in your life! It has been like that for me but I'm on day 50 and am still determined! Good luck with your journey

What a beautiful thing Jazzy. That gave me goose bumps, My children are raised, and unfortunately, they all smoke. My bad. I wouldn't change much in my life, but this is one thing I would do differently. So good one Dad!
