schedule 10 Aug 2015

I have two daughters who beg me not to smoke. I was so addicted I just told them that the more they say it, the less I want to quit. Smoking is such a comfort to me and sometimes, in such a stressful life, that comfort is all I've got. Addiction talking again. My youngest daughter asked me recently if I would buy her something online for a game she is playing. My "easy" answer is 'we can't afford it'. I had just gone to the store to buy a pack of smokes. So she, so cleverly, said "but you can afford cigarettes".... touche.....

We are broke, we are struggling, and recently being diagnosed as type 1 diabetic, I think it's time to seriously reconsider my life habits.

I don't know how this is going to turn out but I know for the last year, every. single. day. I wake up saying todays the day I'll quit. For a year.... so... I had three left in my pack this morning and said, for the first time with conviction, today IS the day. I'm sick and tired of stinking, of wasting money we can't afford to spend, of worrying about my health and whether or not I'll be around to watch my kids grow up...

So, fingers crossed because this is going to take A LOT of willpower I'm not sure I have.....

Today is the day....

Hi valorous, listen you can quit smoking if you really want to. You will have more money in your pocket, and your kids be happy. I quit smoking a year ago today, cold turkey. So, you know it can be done. It is the best thing you can do for yourself. Best wishes!

I went cold turkey too, but only 19 days ago. This websites helps a lot........

HI Valorous, Like you I have two beautiful daughters who are 7 and 18. My 18year old is a TYPE 1 diabetic. I read a post on this website the other day from a man who has been diagnosed with Lung cancer. As I glanced up from the IPad at my two beautiful girls it just strengthened my resolve. I want to be there for all their special moments. My mother turned 79 today and I would be lost without her. I want to be there for my precious girls as she is for us.I do not want to find out when its too late and be left saying "I Wish". I have already saved 1100. Just do it, it is so good when you stop. I now have snuggle time with my 7 year old instead of dart time and she made me a beautiful star chart which is on the fridge.

Hi Valorous, you will be amazed at just how much willpower you actually do have inside when you truly want something. I quit 4 months ago, fell of the rails due to stress for a few weeks but quickly got back to it again. My biggest mistake I think was when I stopped checking into this site because I thought I was on top things. You learn by these mistakes though & I've realised it doesn't really matter as long as you don't stop the fight to quit. Believe in yourself, you will get there. Good luck.

Any reason is a good reason to quit. You could make a collection of them. You could add to your reasons to quit each day. You could write a gratitude list. You could list the stuff you want from a new lifestyle
