I am 21 days into my quit journey. I started smoking at 30 years of age & am now 42 & was smoking 12- 15 cigarettes a day. My husband is a very heavy smoker who does not wish to quit. I find weekends especially difficult to stay away from smoking, as well as of an evening when the kids are in bed ... these were my "relax" times & I feel lost without that comfort of just going out on the deck for a few moments alone & a smoke. Wonder when the constant thinking about cigarettes ends ??...

Hi Mel, I am 59 days into my quit journey and I still miss that ciggie on our decking so I can really relate to you missing that, but it is just 1 of the triggers for you to light up, I didn't realise how many triggers I had and still deal with them every day but now they are only fleeting. I can actually go out and have a coffee now with my hubbie (also stopped smoking) . I don't know if you stop thinking about the cigarettes but I am starting to have a negative thoughts such as "boy do they smell" "it's too cold outside " I don't have to constantly check to see if I have enough Cigs to last till morning" Keep hanging in there Mel from every point of view it is so worth it, health wise and money wise I have saved $975.00 already and that's not adding what hubby has saved…

Hi Mel,

I am on day 55 now, I have only been on this site a few times this quit time. As I have tried on a few occassions. This site is fantastic for support, I lived on it the first few times but now not so much. Maybe this is the time I quit for good!

Anyway I completely relate to what your saying as I'm sure everyone else will.

I believe as you progess you will think less about them. I try to look at it as when you smoked you pretty much thought about them all day. Well for you at least 15 times a day. So by not smoking you are only going to think about them when a certain situation arises. So for me it has dropped to about 1 - 3 times a day of really wanting one. If that, but yes I still think about them often, but without the stress.

My partner smokes about 20 a day, as I did for about 25 years.

I don't mind him smoking around me. I like to smell how bad it is when he's finished one lol.

As far as the relaxing time goes, I still sit outside with him every now and then. It is getting less and less. When I really want that relaxing feeling a sit wherever I did before and inhale an E cigarette. I know they have not fully looked into the side effects of e ciggies but I don't care. As it helped me get through the really tough times, in the car etc. well for you sitting out on the deck. It tricked my mind to feel like I wasn't missing out. I can assure you the times I use them has dropped dramatically. Now I deep breath for the same effect.

But don't forget, you will learn to enjoy the deck without them. You honestly will, just give yourself time and enjoy all the good things about not smoking.

I feel clearer at work, so much more focused. I love the fact no one at work smells when I've had one now. As it is 99% non smokers now. I am losing weight??? Work that one out.

Back to the e ciggie thing, if you don't like the sound of having another vice, you could hold a pen or something.

I know I'm going on about it, but seriously you WILL learn to enjoy your relax time so much better without cigarettes.

Good luck

Sharon :)
