ciggarettes out of bins
today was meant to be my quit date. i had no money and by 7.00 i was furiging through the local ashtray down the street for giggarettes.yesterday i saw a man going through the bins and i thought is that what i look like . at 12 midday mum showed up with 50 dollars and i waited till they left and went to the shops and bought a packet of ciggarettes.one good thing that i did was write a list of all the things i could buy with the money and i actually ordered the sun newspaper be delivered to my house everyday for just 13.15 a week. sure i failed my first attempt but i started being positive about what i could do with the money i'll save . would you believe a thirty year smoking habit has cost over 100.000 dollars. i put back my quit day until the 24th of may , my birthday. and try again . bye for now matt

Never quit, quitting. Each time we quit, we get better at it. So keep trying and you will get there. Good luck

Hi Matthew, this must be proof enough to show you just how addictive the things are & how they control you. I know I've searched through my dirty ashtrays in the past, yuk. I could never stand doing it but that's what we do when we're desperate. Happy birthday for the 24th that's my mums birthday too, she quit 10 years ago at age 65 and just suffered a heart attack, she's ok now but could have been fatal if she had still been smoking. Anyway, back to you, it's great that you are thinking of the positive things you could be doing instead of smoking and are working towards trying again. I know, the amount we have all spent is sickening. So far I've saved nearly $300. I can at least double that with the money I've saved on alcohol also. So....as a reward, i've bought myself some new clothes, taken my sister to dinner & a concert for her birthday, bought some makeup & had some Ella Bache pampering. The rest is in the cookie jar & now I'm just continually adding to it, I want it to pile up to the roof. I seem to always have change I'm throwing in there too & I'm not scratching around the bottom of my bag for extra coins to get another packet of smokes. It's so great. You can certainly do this Matthew, just try, try again. Good luck.
