Smoking and premature aging-Day 10

Posted in Reasons to quit
schedule 26 Jul 2014

I looked in the mirror and told myself as I saw my wrinkles, I need to stop this, or I am going to look so very old in a short period of time.  I am 52 years old and started smoking at 13 years old.  Thats alot of years of damage.  My motivation for quitting is personal appearance.  I am hoping that the wrinkles will at least recede, be less noticable and I will have younger looking skin.

At day one of quitting smoking I started running and working out at the gym, and have been doing so ever since I quit.  I am pleased with the results:  Improved physical appearance.  Not only that, my blood pressure is at about normal now.  Thats just in ten days.

At day ten things are getting much more managable.  I am no longer feeling like I need to beat the crap out of someone, my mood is stabalizing, and I dont feel like I have to cry all the time.  I have been using NRT, (Nicotine replacement therapy), and I am needing less of the nicotine gum.

Thanks very much for posting your responses. Today is day 13 and this morning it seems I have had a recurrence of a strong craving. I immediately grabbed a 4mg piece of gum. I continue to look at the blessings/benefits of not smoking, such as going to the gym and running and working out. I hit a new milestone and ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill at a 2.5% grade, over two miles. I am amazed that I can do this!!
