Still learning at 55

Last year I was asked to join a friend at a yoga class for the first time and I fell in love. Not with the friend but with yoga. For the past year I have been going to yoga faithfully and working out. In February of this year I went on a yoga retreat and was ashamed of smoking. That was big start. Here I am 55 on this personal journey to be healthy and fit but still smoking and me being ashamed and mad at myself for not stopping. This is my last big hurdle and I need to get over it. Smoking is affecting my breathing, my overall health and I have had enough. After everything I have done in my life this has to be doable. I have smoked for 40 plus years at an average of 20 smokes a day and have quit several times. This is it I am done!

Hey kneed, congrats on making the decision! You and I have very similar stories, I am the same age so have smoked for a long time! I started to go to the gym with my sister (she thinks I quit smoking years ago!). I am ashamed and embarrassed by my smoking, but when I started going to the gym and yes to yoga classes too, I decided I wanted to be healthy once and for all! So, I went on champix and am now 33 days smoke free, it is really working for me! It's amazing how good you start to feel even after a week and that makes you want to keep going. Champix is not for everyone, pick the method that is best for you and then get excited about the new found health and freedom you are going to have. It's exhilarating! All the best to you!

Yay!! you go girl.Love of something like Yoga is such a great motivator to quit for me too. I am about to start swimming laps again and doing some Bikram Yoga... can"t wait to see how my new lungs work after 40 days smoke free ! It will be great to not feel like a traitor to my own body..good luck x
