Hello everyone.

Starting my 1st course of Champix tonight. Need to quit, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and family history of heart attacks. Bit more scared though of the side effects of chapmix more than quitting at the moment.

Hi Costas,

Well done on deciding to quit smoking great decision. Not to worry too much about the Champix. I felt the exact same, and it is natural to be wary. They are very good indeed. Majority of people sufffer nausea after taking it , that usually subside if you take it with food. Anyway the main thing is you are quitting the smokes. Post here if your have concerns, and read posts, there are a good few on champix. I used Champix for the first month, they were amazing I am 5 months smoke free today. Good luck on, it is so worth it.

Well done on making the decision to quit, I too have got good reasons to quit because of health issues (as most smokers). I am trying to think of all the other reasons too, money, smell etc.

Good luck you can do it!

Well done Costas. Champix are ok. They really really help you to quit. Drink lots of water and you should be fine.

Hey Costas..I used Champix and have been smoke free for 6 mths now. Dont read all the negative things online. I found them great and did the trick for me after 38yrs of 30 a day. Just do it you wont regret it and forget those who have posted negative comments online..prob the tobacco companies trying to scare people from quitting using this method as it really does work !!!!!!

I used Champix too. I am now 56 days smoke free. This is my third time using Champix to quit. I have smoked a pack of 25 every day for 36 of my 48 years of life. The first two times I used Champix - I got through the week and thought I did so great it warrants a cigarette on the weekend for all my hard week. NO GOOD - Don't do it. I fell into this trap twice using Champix. This is my third time and I am not even having one puff!!! The only side effect I got with Champix was a stomach ache with the morning dose because I don't eat breakfast first. I figure I need to get that smoke aid thing into my body asap because I want to smoke!!! So, getting a stomach ache in the morning is ok for me - I think that is what it is like to smoke - you get stomach aches and head aches, so don't smoke. Sounds crazy - but there is a lot of mind games going on....You can convince yourself that you are a diehard smoker and nothing is ever going to change. I am weak and cannot quit. I love smokes and smoking......then you turn it all around and say the opposite. The Champix medication said you have to take the pills and continue smoking until your quit date which should be before the 14th day. This third time round, I chose day 15 as my quit date and so far so good. As time goes by, I find I am only taking the morning pill and skipping the evening one. I hope that when the prescription runs out I will still be able to be smoke free. I find reading other peoples experiences at the same quit days as I am at, really helps. You get some days where you thing, what difference does it make??? Life is so short anyway, why should I spend all this time and effort trying to quit something that I like doing??? Then your nicotine fit goes and you are so thankful that you didn't cave into the craving......Good luck - I am going to continue searching the web for other peoples stories as this gives me the encouragement I need to keep going. I just hope that one day I will not think about smoking anymore.....I would just like to know when that day will come!
