I CAN DO IT

Hi, I am on day 13 of champix. I know they are helping me with the cesation of smoking, as i smoked 20+ per day, and today i have had 1. Tomorrow is "D" day for me, as i have not got any cigarettes in the house, and no one around me smokes. It is a scary thought of not having them in the house.
The reason i am giving up, is, health reasons and the fact that it is becoming ridiculously expensive to smoke. I had my right kidney removed in Feb 13' due to a cancerous growth. Thankfully it hadn't spread elsewhere, that i know of. So i do believe i dodged a bullet there. I didn't smoke in hospital for the 4 days and had the patches to aid that. But when i got home, i had just one smoke left in a packet, so what did i do???? I really could of kicked myself, but the familiarity of being home took over and the habit of smoking again started.
I am going to try extremely hard this time, as i only have the one kidney now, and i need to protect and look after it, as no one can help me with that except ME.
Reading about others experiences is going to help drive me. Good Luck to you all, as our journey's unfold.
Well Shaz, you have come to the right place. We are all in the same situation as yourself and some of us further along.
You have made the right decision to not keep any cigarettes at home as if you do have some there the nagging in your brain would not stop until you had a cigarette and you know it as it proved when you got out of hospital. Be strong and you will see the results. We are here to help you along so keep posting.
Well done to the commitment of D day.

Hey Shaz, well done for picking a day. Today was my first. So far so good. I've found a complete change of routine, get up early to exercise, worked for me when i was cutting down. Good luck, look forward to hearing about your journey.

Hi Shaz I have been clean for 10 weeks and I know if I had Cigs in the house it would never have happened. Good luck and keep us posted

Well Shaz, good for you on deciding to quit the smokes. Reading posts here and getting involved in discussions can really help keep the focus. The Champix are a great support to anyone so good luck. Never have smokes around you, when you quit you quit, it may sound drastic but it will only drive you crazy. Keep posting here , we are all here to support each other . Good luck.

Hi Shaz,
You are so right to start tomorrow without a cigarette In the house. I nearly left one " for emergencies" when I stopped a few days ago, then realised I was setting myself up for failure. I knew I'd smoke that one in the morning, then go and buy a packet because I'd stuffed up anyway! It is a scary thought not having any in the house, but I think you'll find it easier that way. All the best and be strong.

Thanks everyone. I feel i have made the right choice this time. And this forum will help a lot.

Hey Shaz, i hope your day 1 is ok. Stay strong. You CAN do this. It is daunting figuring out what to do, without something we've all lived with for so long. Believe in your ability, it's only temporary.

Hey Shaz - having that one cigarette lying around is just a time bomb. I've tried quitting before but always kept that one ciggy for emergencies and that emergency always came. Put all the ashtrays away - or better still - get rid of them - you're going to be a non-smoker and not need them.
Time to start afresh - good luck!
