This time for life

I started sneaking butts form my Dad at the tender age of eight years old and have a theory that the younger you start the greater the addiction due to the brain still developing. Anyhow, I quite smoking before falling pregnant in 1979 and stayed off that nasty drug until my children were adults and started smoking; yes I quit for over 20 years.
I have now been smoking on and off for about 15 years, more on than off. My experience has taught me that for me, this is an addiction that can last a lifetime and I am always only one puff away from that addiction.
My promise to myself must be to never have that one puff again as it always leads to many more. I have done this many times (sometimes 12 months at a time) and always done it cold turkey. This time I am being kinder to myself and using Champix. This time I am not doing it alone. I am coming to you, my fellow addicts to help me to stay forever strong.
My goal is to stop smoking forever. I do not enjoy it, hate the taste, loathe the smell and the antisocial behaviour. That has never stopped me returning. Now is my time. It starts today with Champix, "won't power" and the strength of numbers.
I have eight days to cut down and stop, so her goes.

Hi CP,
Congrats on making the decision to have another go. I always say never give up giving up. I too have been on and off for over 25 years, with many serious attempts during the past year. This time I know I simply can't have just 1, and know I will stay quit.
Good luck keep posting!

Hi CP,
Well done on your decision to be a non smoker, this is a great support network, so post on here often.
At the end of the day, we are all on this journey together, trying to kick this filthy habit for good, we learn from previous failed attempts,But hey safety in numbers and there's heaps of us on here to support you and each other.
So well done on your decision to quit.Good luck xx

Hey CP, we are here to support you. I am using the champix too , and I am on day 22 and 12 days smoke free. They are very good. It does turn you off smoking, the enjoyment is gone. One smoke leads to another and so on. I have found this site a massive help. I have learned alot and that one statement 'one smoke will lead to another' so I have took that on board and holding on to that fact, and the consequences of denying that truth of that fact. So I am not messing around testing myself , the relationship with smoking is over,it's not on my side, and does not have my back. This site is very helpful. We are all on the same journey, keep posting, and most of all good luck. You can do it. My experience with champix is a little nausea after taking it, eat food and it subsides. I ended up quitting a day before my quit date. Just could not smoke, did not enjoy it, felt pointless. Best of luck , stay strong.

Thank you so much for all of your comments and it feels good to be sharing this journey with like-minded people...Cheers, Christine
