Embarrassed about lying !!!

Just wanted to let anyone interested know, what booted me up the proverbial....Firstly I'm now 62 and until 30/09/2010 was a pack a day person for approx 34 years.

On 30/09/2010 I had a really uncomfortable feeling through all the joints in my body. Very painful so much so that I had serious trouble moving, my Dr.'s surgery was closed so I thought it very wise to go to A & E at my local hospital. I was asked all the usual check in questions including "do you smoke ?". Without thinking I replied "no". Mind you I was not at all well and would have said anything to anyone.

Two things resulted from all of this:

1. My own personal embarrassement that me, a 60 year old (at the time) had just lied, and,

2. Was the medical problems I had that day a result of my smoking ? (I was not ready for anything that serious in my life ). The condition ended up being Arthritic so not cigarette related BUT

I have never had a cigarette since. IT CAN BE DONE I am the perfect example.

I tell myself "how dumb would you be" !

Don't be embarrassed, Well done johng. I bet you feel a whole lot healthier now! That's the thing, whilst you're smoking, every cough, every wheeze, every ache and pain you have, you are scared shitless. Thanks for your story, you have inspired me.

Cheers margie, "shame" probably a more accurate word, because telling lies does not come naturally to me. The fear of what "might" be wrong was also quite real. The other stupid thing was I use to stop whenever we went on hols. (my wife not a smoker) and then start up when we got back ??? I tell my self how stupid was that...

A genuine true story. Stay inspired....

Very true john. For everyone trying, it does get easier...about 16 months for me now. I feel the better for it mentally as well as physically .

I do still say to myself "good move old son". I feel comfortably pleased with my own inner ability. Be damned if I will let a stick of tobacco hanging out of my mouth rule me, I'm to strong for that.
