This is Tough But I am Determined

I have been smoking for 50 Years. Tried everything to quit but was rarely successful past a few days. This time I became, and remain, determined to beat these things. I expected to have cravings...and I got them in spades...still do almost constantly. I have experienced roller coaster emotions from the depths of depression to almost feeling good about my decision. My body aches, my sleep is either totally messed up or I cannot wake up.

I know, sounds like a tale of Doom and Gloom, right? Well it can be if I let that get to me and I start being unpleasant to those around me for pressuring me to quit.

But the truth is, since I was 12 years old, I have smoked away two houses, or early retirement, and quite probably, years off my life span.

So whatever the future holds, I know I have beaten the ciggies, one day at a time. I don't worry about how I will handle tomorrow or next week...I simply manage today...Today is enough to focus on

Gandolph, nicotine is powerful stuff. I had no idea it could affect me during as much during withdrawal. It does get a touch better each day. Just don’t take that first one. Stay strong!

Thanks Poison Free....I am ....stubbornly refusing to give in to the crave

Just remember.

We dont smoke - NO MATTER WHAT>

Push through and eventually that poison will go away. Just like a stray cat, keep feeding it and it will come back.

2 houses up in smoke! Holy Smokes!

There is not much we can do about the past but we can make the best decisions for the future. While we can live without luxury and make do, who wants to live with ill health and can't even enjoy the simpler things in life.

I also quit late in life and had I known it was as easy as it was for me, I would have quit decades ago. Of course I tried to quick at different points, but did not have the understanding that is available to us today.

We did not choose to smoke for a lifetime.

We thought we enjoyed it because we didn't have to desal with the cravings that came if we did not feed it.

We accepted it when we did not know we had the power to quit.

Seeing others quit is powerful. We can quit and stay quit. We can choose better life ahead.

It sounds like others want you to quit smoking more than you do. It is imperative that you find the WANT and DESIRE to do more with that money going up in smoke. You can accept or resist.

Willpower and determination are great, but things come easier when you WANT to do them. See the joy and good, the positive. When you can't sleep, think .....there will come a time where I can sleep for eternity. When you oversleep give thanks that your body is refueled and able to keep going.

Cravings will come but you have the control. A craving means that you are winning. It will whine hoping you will feed it and it will not need to leave.

Control. Freedom. or slavery and suppressed. Depressed.

It is your CHOICE. You are stronger than nicotine. We beat it and so can you!

Look up 'The Hypnotist' on podcasts and download some of the quit smoking ones. Play them for a few days while you sleep through the night, it helps retrain your brain. Stopped cold turkey after 39 years and it wasn even hard, I was surprised. Every time I craved it I did a paint by numbers or cooked food, anything to focus my attention elsewhere. The other great thing was Turmeric, once the nicotine is gone the cravings don't stop because your body wants dopamine which you get from smoking, take turmeric for a bit it helps boost dopamine and fill the void that smoking left until you just don't want to anymore
