Starting again!

Hi all. I have visited this site on previous quit attempts but this is the first time posting. I find all your stories really inspirational and it has definitely helped, so thank you.
I quit smoking back in 2018 Cold Turkey and was successful until 2020!! It only took a few slips and after a month or so I was back smoking. I find this so depressing. I am a secretive smoker!! I hide from my children, don't smoke at work and come the end of a working day my anxiety to have a cigarette is at a massive high!! It seems so ridiculous to me that I felt so good being a non smoker but now feel hopeless every time I try and quit.
I recently quit for a week using the patch. I was restless each night and had the most disturbing dreams! I have done so much research and understand addiction. I pledge to quit every night I go to bed but obviously come morning my mindset changes.
I really want to get back on track and was hoping for some advice on quitting Cold Turkey again. Hoping this will keep me motivated 🤞
Hey man - I hear you, it's a rough situation. You quit Cold turkey, that's intense!! Just know that is absolutely inspirational - not everybody can do that eh!
Here's my recommendation - because it worked for me in the past - and BELIEVE me - if something worked for me, I think it'll work for ANYBOBY.
Try Champix (or Chantix) - go on it for 2-3 weeks and it'll LITERALLY get rid of your desire to smoke - it's unexplainable - you just have to try it to belive it. And let this be known, I'm not trying to sell their brand for some sort of a personal gain - I have NOTHING to do with them. I just believe in the product so unbelievably much because it worked so miraculously for me and I feel like I have to share my story.
I wish you nothing but luck my man! ...look into champix

Welcome Hol2021, you are not alone, I can relate to everything you are saying. The shame, the disappointment, the fact we know smoking gives us nothing positive, we just feed that addiction.
Personally I cannot face cold turkey, so I cannot give you advice on how to do that. What I can offer you is to let you know you are not alone, you have come to the right place for support to get the mindset to quit. Quitting is predominently mind over matter, yes there are withdrawels but if you want to be free from it you just need to embrace the quit, relish in the fact that you want to choose to STAND UP and want to scream NO MORE to allowing this horrid addiction rob you of your health, time, money, self esteem and make you smell like an ashtray.
Just make the choice to do it and back yourself, just worry about getting through one day at a time, stay close to the support group, you know you can do it, we know you can do it, you just need to choose to commit to be free🙌

Thank you Adam and Leeann for your comments and encouragement. What an amazing job on your quit so far....well done 👏
I will definitely try to back myself and see how I go.

Hi Hol2021. Just a quick hello and response,,,,,, I never had lasting success with patches . They irritated my skin and the big 21mg one was way too much nicotine infusion for me, One sure sign of overdose is hiccups. Fast heart rate and night sweats and bizzare dreaming are others,
You can buy the little 7mg patches but they often slide off with lack of sticking surface.
Other people used to cut them in half. Took them off at night And others chucked them away after a few weeks and Quit successfully without them.
Goodluck with it,
Its mostly mind over matter!

Thanks Red-67. Yes I absolutely agree with what you are saying. My quit starts today and feeling pretty positive atm.

Hi Hol2021, welcome to the place that will help you. I actually used patches at one time but needed to take them off before bed time because of dreams and I also remember it gave me a rash and was very itchy.
Although there is a common goal to quit smoking, there are many roads how to get there. Scout the site and use the search tool as well. Someone will write how they did it and you might think the words are "talking to you". YAY, new way to quit!!
I decided to tell you today what I did in case it might appeal to you. I actually quit for 3 weeks having multiple slips (not a lot and not a slip each day). Even with slips, I kept on counting those days.. THEN I set the date to STOP, STOP, STOP, rolled back the clock to day #1 again and I am now on my journey, a good journey. I had a new strong and determined mindset when my new day #1 came. Did the practice run help me? Did it help my mindset? I am not sure, but I do think I was more prepared,
Hang in there Hol2021, you are not alone!
