Happiness or Smugness?

I have noted while browsing as a guest that a user called Happiness has had next to no nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Whilst this is fantastic for her, I would just like to point out that posting ad nauseum that 'it's 'all about mindset'' isn't really helpful and can even be harmful. There are real physiological reasons why people who quit experience the symptoms that they do due to the neuroological adaptions that take place when one is expiosed to nicotine over time, especially if one is a heavy or long term user of nicotine. These are scientifically proven and studied, and I would encourage Happiness to read these - JAMA and Pubmed are good sources. Everyone should feel supported - for some this journey is easier, others it's much harder. Good luck to everyone on their own personal journey.

Thankyou for your feedback, and welcome Redrobin, At some stage in my own quit this was quite annoying for me too, I brought this up a few posts ago, and did stress an explanation of what this "Mindset" is, not to just skim over this expression, for me a "Mindset" can be used in a derogatory manner not just a positive one.
Happiness had none or very little withdrawal symptoms, that is true but over the course of a year or so Happiness and Red, have maintained that if people had read Alan Carr's book first then it would be easier to embrace the quit (in a happier place) rather than thinking it would be hard to do. I do understand this more now, but for newer ones it does present a problem if they are not feeling so happy I do refer them to "How to grow to be a Happy NON smoker" which is a video on utube presented by NASIA DAVOS.....TEDxUniversityofPiraeus, (empasis on Growth) which was the catalyst for me in understanding the long term position and to embrace our own individual journey that one could adopt. I felt this gave me more of an insight, although I took some of the concepts of Alan Car's book on board.
Overall Happiness has been the backbone of this website but does not give her inclusive rights that is true, she was the only one who replied to me when I first started, and for this reason I would add, she has helped more people than the few she may have turned off.
You are welcome to join in and reply to any of the posts where you think you might be of help, in fact this is better for everyone involved, simply because we all have different reasons to quit and different experiences to convey. Please post again.

Thank you for your concern RedRobin and your support Softly.
I am not a doctor, psychiatrist, or any such thing and have never claimed to be. We all try to relay our experieces and suggest how we might deal with them and given that I found it surprisingly easy only wish that I could help others through it as pleasantly as possible. That and to make it lasting, not an unneccessary act overall.
I tell people that in my opinion they first need to WANT to quit. Not feel pressured by doctors , loved ones or even their own guilt. Only we can do it and WANT to. Who wants to do something unpleasant? If I can help allay some fears and recommend a great book to do that why not?
We can stuggle and overcome the nicotine addiction in a matter of hours, but it is the fear of life without ever smoking again that traumatizes some people.
When you are told of terrors that lie ahead, anyone would think twice.
When you are shown how glorious it can be , you want that too.
I cannot change anyones minds, only how they choose to see things.
Opening eyes to some truths about smoking has helped many find their way to freedom from smoking. I certainly hope that I do more good than bad.
Anyone with real medical concerns is alway advised to seek professional help.
Many may just need someone to lend an ear and feel normal.
Exercise, sleep , meditation and less pill popping is what would probably serve most the best. Understanding the cause and not masking it.
Diet can provide some chemicals lacking in the brain. The information is on the web.
Any source of information needs to be scrutinized.
I do my best.
We can quit smoking.
We will never quit smoking if we don't think we can.

We all get frustrated ..
Take a deep breath, look around you and acknowledge all the great gifts God has given us
Everything will be fine
One day at a time

Mindset or whatever anyone wants to call it - but as long as your desire to smoke is greater than your desire to quit you will remain an addict. Good luck.
