It has been 6 months and I have been really good. But I have had to deal with a smoker opposite my unit for many months but for some reason it is really affecting me tonight. Help

Tough it out. You have done well so far and have shown that you are stronger than the addiction. Think how far you have come and remember all the positive changes that have come in result of this journey. I do hope that you are not just seeing how long that you can abstain from smoking, rather than have chosen this as a way of life. We were born with no desire to smoke, but introduced an addictive drug. You are wiser now. The decision is yours..

I am sorry if the above statement seemed insensitive. I also get whiffs of smoke from my neighbour and yes it can smell good. The sense of smell evolves memories, but those memories were not enhanced by the act of smoking. Those pleasant memories just happened in a different era. Don't confuse that with a cravings. So much has changed with covid. It is no wonder we yearn for the familiar old times. Like covid, nicotine also took our freedom and became the norm. We can to accept that. because of the drug and brainwashing. We won't allow covid to dictate us forever. We allow ourselves to follow the safety protocols for the sake of others, but it's getting thin. We will not allow it to rule the rest of our lives, take our freedom.......will you let nicotine?

I suggest you talk with him/her frankly, tell them your situation and ask to cooperate. Smokers always keep thinking about quitting. They always feel some respect for quitters. Hopefully, he/she will understand you and will cooperate with you.

Really Dicknose, you are 6 months free of "Nicotine" do you want to go back to square one? Do you want to feel trapped and treated like a criminal from the public? Do you want your health to suffer in the long term? Do you want the money to dwindle from your bank account? I hope not.

We all have moments of past experiences which are either pleasant or painful. You still need to enjoy those moments in the thought that you are not doing the same thing as your neighbour. Enjoy your freedom and feel glad to have succeeded for 6months. Practice again and again NOPE (not one puff ever) every day.

Congratulations on 6months, and post again if you feel the need. Do not suffer on your own.

Thank you all for being there. Thanks softly40 for reminding me of the mantra. I don’t ever want to start again. I made it through the night. Thanks again today is a beautiful smoke free day.
