Mouth ulcers

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 28 Dec 2020

Watch for mouth ulcers and gum irritation. I read that 40% give up quitting when the ulcers hit and I can see why but have not given up. Any hints on getting rid of the ulcers?

It is stress and anxiety that bring about ulcers. When you accept the decision to quit smoking and look forward to rather than begrudge the changes brought about, you will be happy about your decision.....Yes your decision.....a CHOICE! If you HAD to quit due to health reasons or doing it because someone asks you to, you need to work even harder on the mindset needed to overcome this horrible addiction. It can be done.......read our stories, how we cope...all the benefits bestowed upon we who quit. I wouldn't trade it for the world. That is what you NEED to feel also.....

Thank you for the hint, Nuts, it does help. I appreciate it. Thanks happiness, I’ll bear that in mind if I ever see the negative. Definitely love having quit. Ulcers are a part of the process and not due to stress. None felt here. x

I am glad that you don't feel that you are stressed about quitting smoking. Years ago I ground my teeth until my jaw ached....stress...although there was no stress that I knew of.

My baby sister developed mouth ulcers when mother was helping with homework....my only experience with mouth ulcers. She got a prescription to coat her mouth.

It is news to me that these ulcers are so common amongst quitters. I haven't heard much complaint of that in the 2 years on this site.

I am glad the salt water swish is working. Feel better soon.

Interesting. I googled it previously and it’s common in quitting and equally as common for a quitter to start smoking again to get rid of the mouth irritation and ulcers. I think it’s always important to let others know what to possibly expect as that knowledge can lead to success.
