Week 7

I decided to quit smoking 7 months ago using nicotine patches to help. I am 32 years old and smoked for 16 years, so half my life before this round of quit. After the first few weeks I noticed that I was coughing up phlegm that had gray/black in it. I assumed this might be normal after quitting smoking but I'm also a little worried. I have an appointment this week to get checked out, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Congratulations on quitting smoking. Many others over my year here have reported having coughed up debris from the lungs and say it is a sign of healing. I waited and did not experience it. Every quit is different and if one is concerned about one's health, they should seek medical help.
Great job. Think positive and know that you too can be smoke -free.

Congratulations on quitting Cari, yes it is always a good idea to get checked out for anything that continues for a long time, let me put it this way, it would not help your body to resume smoking so stay close to this forum, and work on 8 weeks smoke free. NOPE (not one puff ever) no matter what.

It's normal and also it may not be the last time you do that. This is a journey and your body can't get better right away.

Thank you all! I feel relieved knowing I'm not the only one to cough stuff up. I have an appointment tomorrow to get all checked out. The stress is piling up but I'm not giving in 😁 one day at a time

Hi Cari and cheering you on to 8 week, no excuses, no matter what the mind of yours may come up with? Some people do have phlem and mucas and some suffer flu like symptoms for many weeks and months sometimes. Personally i was not much of a cougher , but i reckon some flu and depressive symptoms did hang around for about 2 month's!
I'm still recovering every week and saving $185.50 weekly too!
I have COPDisease and had I stayed Quit at 32 years of age my lung would be fine. I operate on one lung, but, thats because I failed to remain off those filthy smokes around 32 years old.
Please dont fall into the old trap like I did.
not one puff ever
regards

Puff No More,
Thank you for sharing your experiences! When you posted that I really needed the cheering and encouragement. Sometimes it's nice to look down at your phone and know your not alone in the tough moment, even when those physically around you are clueless. Thanks for the encouragement!
Whatsup,
I never tried champix, but I know the side affects of quitting smoking can try to deter us.. don't give up! You've got this! Use this forum to find info about the nausea, and keep fighting! Everyday I am up against challenges that began after quitting (depression, anxiety, undiagnosed health issues) but I push through and remind myself that I am stronger than those challenges. I cannot let them win, it's my time! I've smoked for 16 yrs until the last 53 days, and I want control, I will get through this! One moment at a time. So find your strength, your stubbornness, your will power, whatever it is to help you push through the challenges you face and continue to not smoke- one moment at a time.

Hi Cari, just hoping you are doing well and still off those cigs and finding it a little esier each and every week!
Below is a link to some YouTube music to stay motivated.

If the link failed? I was thinking that you may like The Waifs...I'm in London still. Great Aussie music.

PuffNoMore,
Thanks for the motivational music! I hope you are doing well on your journey. Yes I have been off the cigs for 70 days 😁 The last 70 days have been so tough, but I'm proud that I haven't had a single puff, even with all the additional stress. I was recently let go by my (toxic) workplace for being quarantined. I've considered litigation, but have not contacted an attorney because I don't want that fight if my biopsy doesn't go well this week. Usually these stressful things trigger me to want to smoke and give up quitting, but getting through them without a cig makes me feel even stronger and want to push through! Some days are good for me, some are not.. but I feel like it's getting easier.
