Weathering the Storm

First of all, thank you to this community. You all have gotten me through tough times.
I am 57 days nicotine free and having good and bad days. I am 30 years old and have smoked for 6 years and vaped for 6.
My main symptoms are constant throat clearing (not coughing), desire to take deep breaths, and heart palpitations a couple times a week. (Feels like strong pulse and racing heart) then goes away after a few minutes. I feel like it’s all anxiety to be honest. I know that my head has the ability to make my symptoms better or worse. I also read on here that others have experienced it.
Most of my symptoms have eased, I haven’t had a heart palpitation in over 2 weeks but just had one yesterday. Lately my chest is just a little uncomfortable, this comes and goes. I’m always spitting up clear phlegm from my throat.
Week 1 I called an ambulance because I thought I was having a heart attack. They said my vitals were fine. Week 3 I went to the ER for the same thing. They did an EKG, said seems like anxiety and sent me home. I followed up with my PCP and he said my lungs and heart sound fine. It sounded like generalized anxiety due to quitting and it should go away.
Am I just learning how to deal with this mentally for the first time without nicotine stimulating me? Has anyone else had it this bad? I have moments where I feel great and think I’m in the clear, then something comes back and I begin searching google trying to find a disease that fits... so annoying. Feels like a little devil is on my shoulder and refuses to let it go. Thanks again for everyone one here! Staying strong, no urge to go back.

I’d also like to add that most of these symptoms occur while I’m at my desk at work, or on the evening time. Weekends are best. They also go away when I exercise every morning. So hopefully that is a good thing.

One last thing, my neck has been stiff for weeks. I get numb tingling between my shoulder blades when I sit sometimes. Used to get pins and needles in my hands and feet but not anymore.
- Trying to share all my symptoms because knowing I wasn’t alone is what helped me get this far.

I am glad that you found the site helpful, yet If I told you that my ankles ached, you would probably start to feel that. Your mind will fire up your imagination. Why not try the reverse and feel great. I know I did when I quit cold turkey except for the odd craving which is merely a thought. Dismiss them and concentrate on something else. Another member ditched the nicotine patch and had no cravings once she realized that it didn't have to be difficult. Smoking gave you nothing, and once you can accept a life without then you will put it all behind and move on. Allan Carr's book takes away the anxiety that so many seem to have.
Make quitting smoking something wonderful and look forward to the freedom you will experience, rather than hating every moment. The proper mindset makes it easy.

Welcome Mwest527. I have had heart arrhythmia in the past but not connected to withdrawals. It is difficult to catch, even doing ecg's. You need to do your deep breathing and relaxation at the onset of it, this will calm the nervous system, I would suggest you look into the practice of deep breathing methods, and find one that suits you.
Any upset or food intake can trigger this condition, and you need to either walk away or shrug it off. This is only the first step, the next step is your dietary intake, and this is important too. Your chemist is a good place to go, and I use magnesium on a daily basis, you will also find a few natural stress relief tabs, which you can take. Out of all of this the deep breathing is the best coupled with some other movements in your body.
It is hard to capture on any test that medical practitioners give you
I am just letting you know if this is all you get it is not a serious problem, and at this early stage of not smoking it is best to continue not to smoke at all costs and try different manoeuvres. Keep in touch.
