Is this normal

It’s been 4 weeks today. I can’t express the misery I’m feeling. Tingling all over, chest tightness, anxiety, depression, crying, brain fog... you name it. Will this stop??? I’m also coming off of a steroid pack for a back injury. That may definitely be adding to all of this. Social distancing... CoVid... why did I think this was a good time to quit?!? ADVICE PLEASE!!!

Hi there I also suffer from extreme anxiety with agoraphobia and really wanted to give up with all this covid stuff as the thought of going to hospital freaked me out. I decided to use 14mg patches and cut smokes down to 7 per day. Now I’m on 7mg patches and 7 per day but feel absolutely horrible. Anxiety through the roof, terrible chills, lethargy and insomnia. I think it’s what’s call the smokers flu, but man it’s horrible. And I’m still smoking!!!! How are you going today?

Hi. Every day you say no to cigarettes, you are closer to gaining freedom and distancing yourself from another enemy. Everyone is feeling the pain of Covid-19, but lighting up will not fix anything. Pretend like the cigarette craving is the Covid virus. Do whatever you must do to stay clear of being "infected". Just because the world is in turmoil, does not mean those on this site who have stopped smoking are suddenly going to crumble and give up the good work and fall into a heap and wallow in a bonfire in an ashtray.

It may be a difficult time to quit, but then there are fewer temptations. We do know that smoking will not solve anything, but that you would probably be chainsmoking by now and feeling even worse for it. Too much caffeine causes anxiety and it is not dimished by nicotine anymore. The smell of lavender is relaxing. Exercise is also beneficial. Eating foods with tryptophan increase seratonin a mood enhancer as well as melatonin for sleep. Hopefully some of these things will make you feel better. You are doing great

Thanks for the comments. I guess I should give some history. I’ve been smoking for almost 30 years. I only quit during my pregnancies and a short time after. I’m 42 and I started at 13 sneaking around with cigarettes. I quit 4 weeks ago cold turkey. Just a few days before quitting I hurt my back and could hardly move. I’m a thyroid cancer survivor since 2017. I just went through a 1.5 year HORRIBLE divorce. My health, mind, body and soul were crushed. I wanted to start taking care of me. I have been eating right for the most part and smoking and caffeine were next. I quit cold turkey 4 weeks ago. I went through the regular withdrawals but the worst has been the last week. I’m also coming off of the steroid pack and it may all be a part of this overwhelming ordeal. I have felt short of breath, chest pressure, pins and needles in my face, dry throat, headache, dizziness, fatigue and I’ve been crying quite a bit. I do suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. This is all new as of the beginnings of my divorce. I just don’t feel “good” and I actually feel like something is wrong. I’ve gone to the doctor and have started some bloodwork to take a closer look. I’m just wondering: is this normal for someone who quit smoking to experience a month after quitting?? Stay strong!!! You’ve got this!!

Hi mariehz78. Congrats on 4 weeks- that’s awesome. Keep going with it. Each day without smoking gets better. Look after you, keep in touch with your doc, and all of us here. 💕🤗

My , you do have a lot going on. No wonder you are overwhelmed. You are coming to terms with new changes, just as your body is. It will thank you and reward you for it. Life goes on , maybe meditate and release some of that built up stress. Exercise and instead of worrying about your health, take measures to enhance it. Be grateful for what you have and remember when one door closes another one opens......

Now is the best time to Quit.
