champix not working

I am on day 5 of champix and I find I am smoking more than what I was before I started taking it. I am getting agitated as well which makes me want to smoke more, is this normal? I have had the same experience with nrt, when ever I use nrt I end up smoking twice as much as I did before using it. the quit line wants me to give up in 14 days but I am going in the opposite direction and actually smoking more, I am roughly a 20 to 40 a day smoker

Hi trimmo40
Present count down not working? Nor did mine about 5 years ago. Who says cutting down leads to quitting. Think they are lying or dreaming. Wasn't till I quit cold turkey that I took charge of the journey. You must simply stop! Go through all the emotions the rest of us did. It won't hurt. You will still inhale and exhale and very soon your sense of smell will return. Then there is a myriad of other bonuses. Then you can mentor others here on this site and that gives you even more power and accolades and affirmation. You will enjoy cheering yourself on as will no doubt others reading your posts. Think about it.

Did you read the book I suggest? You know why you want to quit smoking but are afraid of the change it will bring. believe Allan Carr and believe us that they are a changes that you will love! Stop fearing but embrace the journey for you will also be so glad you did.
You are smoking more now because you are apprehensive. I am sure the champix will kick in and start making them less enjoyable Why not get a psychological head start too b y trying some tips in my story....If youve given up giving up (click on my name here and find it) 80% of the journey is the mindset...Champix alone will not do it. It will only help while you learn and adjust how you think.

red 69 you are actually wrong i do want to quit, i have mental illness so there are some bad side affects that can come from withdrawals such as psychosis, please think before you comment. I am trying to get in contact with my psychiatrist to get an appointment sooner, but it's looking like six months to get in,gp's are hopeless when it comes to my medication and mental illness, so is my gp, worst comes to worst i will go to the hospital to get my medication sorted.

Give it a minute, I took champix, smoked for 3 1/2 weeks, then stopped, that was just over 12 months ago, I think I smoked more in the first week, didn’t think it would work, but it did. Believe in yourself, it may not happen over night but it will happen, I was a pack a day for 30 years. Stay strong, you can do this

Keep going, my first attempt with champix was unsuccessful I smoked throughout the whole 3 weeks, but my second (with vaping) and champix worked and I haven't smoked for more than 2 months. People say that you must quit the first time with champix and the second time won't work, but it worked for me you just have to give it calmness and time and don't put pressure on yourself.
