5 Weeks - what worked for me

5 weeks Cold Turkey here too and it's a fantastic place to be.
I really think that Cold turkey is the only way, any other aids are just dragging out the addiction and wearing down your willpower.
For me it was about making a mental shift from: "I can't have another smoke now" to "I don't want to smoke anymore"
One night I went for a walk due to a stressful situation, I wasn't planning to quit either! After smoking close to 10 in 2 hours I just decided now was the time to do it. I didn't plan the date as it would seem like a big deadline approaching and I didn't think the stress would increase my quitting chance.
So just like ripping off a band-aid I had that last smoke and just threw away the Vape pen and cigs. I think the act of throwing them away reinforced my desire to be free.
Rarely now do I get longings, which used to be 3 to 4 longings an hour when I was a smoker!
As others have said here I've more money, stink less, can sit in one place for more than an hour and focus again and more than that I can have a sense of accomplishment. It doesn't sound that important but it's a good feeling beating
something so addictive - a sustaining feeling that reinforces my willpower to stay off those damned things.
Good luck everybody!

Well Welcome IrelandGuy! Joining our community is also a great way to reinforce your quit and remind yourself that you have given up nothing and gained a whole lot in return. Freedom, pride, self esteem and health are things that you cannot put a price tag on.
May I ask if you have just found us, or have been reading along for awhile? I too quit cold turkey without planning to, cut down which was the hardest part, joined aquit group and didn't have the desire to string it out either. I didn't wait for my quit date another 10 days away. Now was the time to jump for that brass ring and here I am a year later, so happy to be a non-smoker.
Congratulations on your success as well. I hope you will be an active part of the community in the future.

Hi Happiness,
Sorry for the late response here, I've been meaning to log back on before now.
I found the board through a Google search and was impressed by some of the stories here. I just wanted to add my own story to the impressive collection here.
Well done to you for making it to the year, that's a significant milestone and I hope to be joining you there in 50 weeks :)
It didn't get much attention, but that's OK - thank you for responding :)

5 weeks is a great achievement and to do it cold turkey is awesome. Keep up the good work.

Hi IrelandGuy. Welcome to our forum. NOPE stands for Not One Puff Ever and is used often by ex smokers to keep on track.
