Day 72

So after 43 years of smoking, I had never had any luck stopping. I decided one day, while coughing due to pneumonia, that it was time to stop for good.
My 25 year old son was coming to stay with me for a while and I did not want to have him smelling that smoke as he did not smoke himself.
So I stopped, just like that, I had my resolve to stop for good and just did it.
I have my moments that I want a cigarette, but those pass rapidly and I remember that I can actually breath now! I smell things and taste things again, I do not get winded climbing the stairs, it feels great!
My house does not smell, my chlothes do not smell, I did not use a patch, I had a bad experience with chantix, so I did it cold turkey and I am on day 72 now, never going back.
I wish you all the best of luck, keep trying, keep going and remember, every day is a new day!

Thank you so much for commenting and letting others know that you can succeed if you truly make the decision and embrace the idea wholeheartedly. It is amazing how quickly our bodies return to better health and the pluses that brings. I haven't had a cold all year, my blood pressure is great and the freedom is wonderful. I went to a fair yesterday and didn't have to leave the grounds to smoke and climb down out of the bleachers during the demolition derby. I felt sorry for those who were doing what i once did. They just haven't come to the crossroads in their life to make the change.
Congratulations on enjoying 72 smoke free days IrishGent. I hope we will enjoy more of your support and encouragement in the future.

Good to hear from you IrishGent and congratulations on Day 72. I hope you continue on doing what you have learned, and keep in touch.

That is just amazing!
So strange, I have a similar story, smoked nearly 50 years, got pneumonia and was in the hospital for 4 days, quit, no patch or Chantix or anything - except FOOD!
House and clothes don't smell like smoke any more -
I have an app on my phone that shows that I'm on day 115, haven't smoked 2885 cigarettes that I would have at a little over a pack a day and have not spent 1190.23 on cigs that I would have. (But I HAVE spent more on food!)
And, yes, inhaling deeply without coughing or chest hurting is amazing too.
Keep it up
Helps to know so many are with us.
Thanks for your post
