Hit the 3 week mark today!

Had another first in my quit experience 2 days ago.....getting off an airplane. The wife and I flew to Melbourne for a short stay, and normally upon arrival it would see me scampering outside for a smoke while she wited at baggage claim. Had a bit of an urge but no real craving. Watched others heading out the door for one.

Another first...staying at a hotel. Non smoking room. Normally Id be heading down and out the front door multiple times in the evening for a smoke. Cold and huddling in a corner somewhere trying to quickly suck one down.

Checking off "firsts" on the quit journey is like following a road map I suppose. It helps to show you how far youve come .

21 days quit. Feeling good.

Keep counting those first time experiences PV. We can now enjoy lifes little pleasures as intended without being held to a time schedule by Nicotine. Not having to count the minutes until intermission, hoping someones needs a bathroom break while playing cards, so we can run for a puff, trying to find the closest smoke station in the park or leaving the beach to have our fix.

We didn't realize fully nor accepted how much control we lost whilst addicted. Only now, as a non-smoker can you come to fully appreciate the true freedom. So many benefits to choosing a different way of life.

Think positive and reap the rewards. Congratulations PV and keep on chalking up new "firsts".

I wanted to ask you PV, how since you started to "think myself a non-smoker rather than giving up smoking" has it impacted your journey?.

That’s a good one. I too recall running out like mad right after landing to have a smoke. Crazy. It’s feels grand not to be a slave to the cancer stick. Cheers and congrats.

Happiness - interesting question. Its probably given me a sense of calm. Reading back over my first couple of posts in here I remember how anxious I was at the beginning. I was genuinely worried about if I could quit. Realising I can and that Im now a non smoker rather than a smoker trying to give up has relieved the anxiety.

Nuts - cheers. According to the quit app Ive saved over $600 so far. You never realise how much it all adds up!

Safe - thanks. Yep I have the control now!

Gday all...well done to everyone for trying your best and giving it a good go...3 weeks for me today. Its important to make sure if your using patches to get the correct dose according to how many you smoke...or the days you may have turkyed it before you start on them...i went straight onto Step 2 14 mgs for a couple of weeks after smoking between 10-15 a day for at least 30 years...but now have been on 7mg patches for two days after feeling very sick on the 14's...nicotine o.d I reckon...so far so good and will keep on this regime...also can sleep properly but I take my patch off 1 hr or so before bed...works a treat...savings so far $400 so have been rewarding myself with cd's...im a community radio announcer so...win win for me and my listeners...currently going nicely...hit me up if you want some advice

It is good to hear from you BoogieChillen and you seem to be in the know about the patches. Should anyone need your help though, they cannot reach you unless you write a story and they can then write on that page and you would be e=mailed. I hope that you will write a short introductory on your own page for this purpose. Congrats on your 3 weeks and stay positive!

PV, Thank you for responding to my question. It is nice to get confirmation that what i read and convey to others is sound advice. I am happy that you are doing so well and happy with the results. Keep thinking positive. We know it works!

Hi PV. The more you travel without the dreaded drug, the more power to you. Travel is less stressful when thoughts are not dominated by the next nicotine fix. The more you see others running for their next fix, the better you will feel about yourself and your decision. Better to think about where you may go exploring or shopping or dining & drinking. These luxuries will become more affordable and more enjoyable. Your wife will enjoy your undivided attention as opposed to sitting on her own and trying to recall the conversation you may have been having. Think you know where I am going wit this. You must be pinching yourself. Glad you have seen the light and ditched the lighter...
