14 Days Frreeeeee

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 3 Jun 2019

I was a smoker for more than 20 years and am now I am on Day 14 of being smoke free! I have had some days where the craving was pretty strong I thought I would cave, but a few deep breaths and the craving passed. I am using patches and find these are helping a lot however I am really exhausted from this insomnia I experience every night for the past week - I am awake until around 3:00am and it’s starting to really get me down! I have tried natural sleep medicine and meditation but my mind won’t stop!

If anyone has experienced this before can you tell me how long this lasts or do you have any tips on how to deal with this?

Thank you in advance 😔

Hi there and congratulations on 14 days smoke free. I'm day 37 today and have been using patches too. They can interrupt your sleep patterns and it does settle down but have you tried taking the patch off before bed? If you are not confident doing that try cutting it in half or trying a lower dose patch. I quite enjoyed the experience of vivid dreams but didn't like the interrupted sleep. It's all good now and I downloaded a meditation app that really helps to calm me down. A walk in the sunshine during the day is great for a good night's sleep too. If you are lying awake just think to yourself how comfortable you are and that just resting is the next best thing to being asleep. Stay strong and here's to your next 14 days smoke free.

Hi Butchette. Congratulations on 14 days a non-smoker!

I quit cold turkey and slept like a baby, but now after 6 months I have had a period of insomnia. I had periodical bout beforehand as well. Try to relax all your muscles one at a time, or do breathing exercises til they bore to to sleep. Me I have best luck when trying to watch my soap and just close my eyes. Crawl into bed and I am wide awake.

I hope you find something that works for you. You may be tired, but stay PROUD. You are winning this fight against nicotine. Great Job!

I have been on patches in the past, but now I am on Champix, with both medications had trouble with sleep. I pulled the patch off the last thing at night which worked for me. As suggested you can get a lower dose, but pulling the patch off was ok.

Thank you everyone! I do take the patches off before bed so I guess this is just normal and will settle down eventually! I really appreciate your replies and feedback so thank you once again!

A craving is a craving whether it be for a hit of nicotine or to satisfy the urge to smoke due to habit. Both are the same, mere thoughts.

Years ago I swallowed a fish bone and my throat hurt for a couple of days and i was convinced that it was lodged in my throat. Once i was told by the doctor that there was nothing, it stopped bothering me. Such is the power of the mind. Placebos do the same thing for some people.

The moral of the story is to retrain your mind and believe that you are stronger than a mere thought because you are!

I would say wish me luck but I don’t need it! Me and my mind can do this, my will power is stronger than I give it credit for
