Got me again

So after 3 months off the darts I had a few beers last weekend and with that came the smokes. I had smoked while drinking two times before this and had no thoughts of smoking the next day. But this time round it snuck up on me and I bludged a smoke at work on the Monday, and was at the shop buying a packet Tuesday.

I do want to stop this habit but there is this little thing in the back of my head telling me i need it. I can have all the will power to not do it but this voice is there like saying "i'm here waiting......you'll be back"

And it was right.........so within a week i'm almost back to where I was and having to start all over again. This is the first time in about 5 years that I have attempted to quit and I keep telling myself that one fail is a step closer.

Will that voice ever go away? or is it always there and you just need to control it?

The little voice will stick around if it thinks you miss it. Like a dog begging for scraps with those sad brown eyes and wagging tail. It is no stray dog and don't treat it as such. Make up your mind that you are stronger than it, and it will eventually leave. The more forceful and determined you are, the sooner it will go. All is not lost with a slip. You have learned alot and can apply all the practice and distraction the next time around.

If at first you don't succeed.........

Great analogy Happiness, I am still doing ok so all good for me. i too had identified smoking with a celebration puff and also as a reward for a good job done, even feeling sad and lonely. It is harder when you associate these feelings with the usual habit which seemed to be considered normal in the past. I have used various methods to allay these feelings but there is still a stomach crunch at the time. So I am now learning to have these feelings and to accept the stomach crunch, without any other crutch. Hopefully this will last.
