Never a right time, just say No More

I was a heavy smoker! Sunday 28th February 2019 when I finished my last packet I said to myself “No more”! With the help of government subsidized patches with a prescription from Drs it actually hasn’t been as hard as I expected.

I’m selling my home, my marriage is just about ruined & we have a little more debt that I simply want paid off!

I also have a 16 year old autistic son! I can’t afford cigarettes, but really who can? I think it was at nearly $46 a pack, that’s what did it for me.

I simply said No more! I’ve survived week one, sure there’s plenty of time to slip up, but my eldest son would simply destroy any cigarettes he found on the property!

I loved smoking, it’s been a very testing week with our first open inspection. Sure there’s been times I’d have killed for a cigarette, I’ve told someone instead!

Anyone can do this, I truly believe that.......

Welcome JennyLouise, I agree there is no "right" time to quit and now is as good as any. Just keep busy and stay focused. You are doing really well, you have got through the first week which personally I think is the hardest. Just focus on on one day at a time and it slowly gets easier and easier. Just think about what smoking robs from us as well apart from $$$$, it steals your health, time and dignity. So trust me when I tell you that you are loosing nothing and gaining freedom from the slavery of a putrid addiction.

All the best on your journey JennyLouise. This process is indeed easier than some may have anticipated. IF the desire to quit is stronger than the desire to smoke, you will have no problem.

Those who have problems letting go will need a longer adjustment period. Anyone can quit, but it will require more actual "willpower in some cases". Understanding nicotine and yourself and the relationship, helps to disassociate and move forward.

I’d love to see if anyone can answer this.... day 3 I felt violently ill. It was more than simply nausea! 7pm that night the vomiting was vial, I couldn’t stop, yet I had very little to vomit up! Is this from quitting or a simple stomach bug? I was unwell for 3 days & it was that awful if smoking related, I’ll never again pick up a cigarette, guaranteed....

I don't know what to tell you JennyLouise. It may have been a "bug" , but if you think it was smoking related and will never again pick up a cigarette guaranteed, then take it as a blessing and use that thought to deter you from slipping.

If you really want an answer then i suggest you make a new posting so most member will be apt to see it and respond.

I hope you are feeling better. Take care and all the best!
