I am 47 days in with my cold turkey quitting journey. I have felt the worst pain in my body of my entire life. I was so scared I was dying I went to the doctor and got a full blood work up and it was normal. I went to the emergency room since I thought I was having a heart attack; ECG, x-ray, and lipid blood work normal. Everyone from these experiences keeps telling me its heartburn. I've never had heartburn in my life; not even when I was pregnant. The pain is just constant all day long! Throat pain, back pain, chest pain. I feel better when I work out, but it comes back. I take Tums, but it comes back. I drink Ginger tea, but it comes back. I am schedule to get an Upper GI barium swallow in two weeks to put my mind at ease. I am also scheduled for a cardiac screen in three weeks to put my mind at ease. Has this ever happened to anyone? I am so anxious I had to get Xanax just to keep it from getting worse. Will the heartburn ever go away? Will I be stuck with this my entire life after quitting? Any advice on how to make it go away? Preferable without medication? Ps, NO CRAVINGS AT ALL! I just want to feel normal again.

Hi llmarie. I quit cold turkey as have many others, and i have not heard of such symptoms. I do understand your concerns, but i do think you need follow up with your GP.

Most cravings are mere thoughts and not physical. Some think they have cravings due to poor diet, too much caffeine and other factors. As all nicotine is totally out of your body at this time, the craving are all psychological at this point, not physical.

I trust you will resolve your issues with your doctor. Let us know how you make out and all the best to you on your journey to freedom.

Hello again lmarie. I found an article for natural remedies on line and will give you the link which leads more articles, and CAFFEINE perked my interest. (No pun intended) While it is suggested to eat breakfast, drink water and cut caffeine in half when cutting nicotine intake so as not to confuse possible afftects with withdrawal symptoms, Caffeine can also aggrevate acid re flux. Just a thought, as nicotine reduced the effect of caffeine. I hope you find relieve soon.

Sorry, Have had endoscopy and all good, gp and cardiologist think mostly caused by smoking, gp prescribed ranatadine which does work, however champix is making it worse atm. GP also told me to expect it to get a little worse when I stop smoking due to cilia recovery. I am now also on high bp medication now. Tips to know if just heartburn or indigestion is a cup of warm water should give temp relief. May not be the same for you, hope all is well
