Staying strong in NYE

schedule 1 Jan 2019

Hey guys

Long time listener (10days) first time caller. Is been super encouraging reading people’s stories so I thought I would post my own about my first big win last night night. I am 10 days smoke free and last night was NYE, traditionally a big smoking night for me and many others here I assume.

I thought I had a good plan in place of going to my friends house who is a non smoker with some other non smoker people. I also gave my credit card to my wife and told her to buy all the drinks on it if we went out but not to give me the card because I don’t want to sneak off to the ciggy shop. Anyway I get there and there’s only 2 mates there who normally don’t smoke and they are chaining away cos NYE. I was like f how am I gonna get through this. Luckily my wife saw that look and helped me all night, telling me encouraging things. I also told my friends straight up I am 10 days quit and under no circumstances to give me a ciggy if I get drunk later and “want” one. It was really hard having them smoke in front of me all night (good friends haha) but I used the mantra “not one puff ever” several times which was effective for me. I also reminded myself how far I’d come and how close I am to a steeping stone goal of 2 weeks.

I was so proud of myself to get through the evening without having a single cig. Not to mention I feel great this morning - I don’t reek like an ashtray with my throat ripped to shreds. I’ve decided to buy myself a reward today of a tool iv been wanting for a while but couldn’t justify the money for.

I hope you all had a happy new year and that you beat all the self indulgent hype around New Years and took care of yourselves.
