Do the cravings ever stop?

Just reached my 6 month anniversary of my quit smoking date. I smoked 3 packs a day for 55 years and am surprised it didn't kill me.
I quit cold turkey when on a vacation in Vegas. Had lost all my money and was out of cigarettes. Only has enough cash to take a cab to the airport. Couldn't smoke in the cab, couldn't smoke in the airport, and couldn't smoke on the plane...even if I had cigarettes so quiting that first day was pretty easy.
Since then I have gained 45 pounds, feel like crap, and srill crave a cigarette every time I am done eating or drinking.
The good news it that I am saving $900.00 every month and have purchased a brand new car! :)

Hi goldengreeke,
First congratulations on your 6 month smoke free!!!
Even that you gained 45 pounds i can guarantee you that you are healthier than when you were smoking.
About the cravings, i believe that after 6 months even that you have mental cravings they are totally manageable although it's still anoying :D.
From my personal experience about the one year mark every time i thought of cigarettes i felt relieve that i do not smoke anymore and not urge.
You should be proud that you've quit after smoking 3 packs a day, thats huge!
Keep up the work and stay free,

A craving is merely thinking that you are missing out on something. I would suggest that you rejoice instead and be grateful that you have escaped that expensive stinking addictive trap!

I have no will power. The only reason I have been able to quit for 6 months is because I won't buy any.
If there were cigarettes in the house I would smoke them! I loved every cigarette that I have ever smoked. Four hundred of them every week for 55 years, do the math..over a million cigarettes smoked!
The only way I can refrain is never buy any and never hang out with anybody that might give me one.

Hi Goldengreeke. To answer your question the cravings to not stop but they become so insignificant that they do not effect your life. I am 6 years free of 55 years of smoking and every now and again I still think I would like a smoke but it is easy to ignore it as almost laughable. I put on 10kg weight when I stopped and did not alter my eating habits , but since then the weight has remained stable. That is my experience. Good luck and hang in there.
