Nearing 3 months smoke free!

I m so proud of myself for being smoke free this long. I never thought I would be able to do it! It feels great to go out and not be looking for a smoking area or having to part from the crowd to find somewhere to smoke. My breathing has improved but I am hoping it will get even better as time moves on. No coughing, no phlegm, saving heaps of money. Both myself and my hubby quit around the same time so we have saved shitloads! We are both planning on retiring later this year and I was beginning to wonder how we could afford to smoke then but now don't have to worry about that! Yahoo. I am determined.

Thanks Red-67. I love how we all encourage each other. It is so nice. Such a positive place to be.........

Hey Pegster. Good for you. There is not a day go by that i dont crave a smoke but i remain focused on the outcome which is to improve my health. That keeps me from caving in. All the best with your journey. 3 weeks smokefree is something to be proud of.

So inspiring. What strategies did you use to get through the craving times/days.?

Hey LizRokka. Thank you. Not having any smokes in the house helps. But i still crave everyday. I have so many dramas in my life also. Enuf to make anyone start up again. I get so angry at times too. But it all passes. I do something tjat changes my focus. Such as checking emails or Facebook or going for a walk. There is always something to occupy your mind. Determination is the key. I suffer quite badly from asthma but get excited about physical achievements such as climbing stairs at lookouts. I did the stairs at Bruny Island lookout yesterday but struggled at Mt Wellington lookout today.

I smoked 10 to 12 cigg for 2 years, I am on my 156th day but m coughing lots of phlegm at alternate of day or night for 2 month...that make me worry😩

Hey Rocky1947, perhaps you should see a doctor regarding the phlegm. I was like that for a couple of weeks after giving up but have no phlegm or coughing now.

Well done Puffer. I'm on 192 days smoke free and just worked out that when I don't smoke for a year I wouldn't have spent over $10,000. I am so greatful to centrelink cause it made me give the smokes away. Keep up the good work.

Your comments are are so inspiring, So proud of all you and your determination. Today is my seventh day as a non smoker. There have been times I wanted to just have one. But that would never do, it would lead me back to where I started, don't want to go there. Has anyone had trouble sleeping while quitting?

Hey OrangeRose, thanks for your comments and congrats to you for starting the journey! At the end of this month I will be 6 months smoke free! I have at times thought of 'just' buying a pack of 20 and having one when the urge gets too much but I know, from reading other peoples experiences, that before you know it you will be back smoking again so I haven't taken it further. Probably the big downside for me now is that I have put on a good 5 kg since giving up. The first month, I was fine, I didn't put on any weight and xmas came and went and all was good, but since then it has been a little bit more each day and here I am now tah dah@! 5kg heavier! One thing I do know is that when the time is right, just like giving up smoking, I will find the same determination to loose this extra weight! In the mean time I went shopping yesterday (with the money saved from not smoking lol) and purchased some new jeans. Keep writing about your journey on here as it does give others inspiration and it is a good idea to come on when you feel like a smoke......it takes your mind off it a little bit......You go girl!
