Giving up is not a non event

I have come to realize that staying quit and not having that obsession with ciggies is not a “non event “ if that makes sense. It is fantastic to see those quitters here that are staying the course but those that have disappeared I often wonder about. It may be they are fed up with posting but it could also mean they have given in to the “ monkey on the shoulder “. After 53 years smoking and 895 days quit each day must be an event. The stories I read here and the various experiences are essential to keep me quit. Having failed in the past numerous times I would be foolish to allow the Nicotine imp to own me again. Thanks to this fellowship hopefully we can all stay quit.

Hi Dobbin, quitting after 53 years of smoking, you are a hero, I also wonder the same thing about people who started posting and then there are no more stories from them. I think some do fail but most keep on with their lives and have beaten the addiction so well that they dont need the support from this site anymore. Soon it will be 3 years for you! Well done

Right on Flamenco. I have been smoke free for a mere 3 months. I am so proud. Essentially trying to get on with life. There isn't a day go by that I don't feel like a cigarette though.

Dobbin, wow after 53 years of smoking! I smoked for around 42 years. It seems like my entire adult life really. I am pretty confident I will never start again. My breathing is not the best and I want to make the best of it and travel. Oh and the money saved is unbelievable!

Hi Dobbin. Ditto to everything you said. Why am I here? After 995 days I still benefit from hearing from those who have been here a long time and can enlighten us to the fact that once a smoker, always a smoker. And smoker, beware. Those who have succumbed after many years of having quit constantly remind me that the battle is never truly won. Mind you going along for the ride means we get to learn from others as they warn us of the likes of "Margaret Thatcher", the name of my craving, who is relentless in her quest to see me fail.
