Stopped 12 days ago , 6th Feb at 9pm . I used the " Allen Carr " book , its a great help and I must say the pangs or cravings for a cig havent been that intense since the 2nd day. I smoked for 35 years 30 a day . But I have been a bit depressed , at first I was scared to as why , but thanks to Google , I found out it is a common side effect of stopping smoking . I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it ?

Hello and welcome Simon, yes depression is one of the withdrawal symptoms, for me it was as if someone had died, but if you think positive it passes fast. I too read Allen Carrs book, thanks to it I could get the courage to quit, but afterwards reading all the stories posted here about people that have been on the same road and are 1 or 2 or 3 years without smoking has been a great help.

Congratulations on your two weeks, and it does get easier.

schedule 20 Feb 2018

Hi mrsimon. I'm absolutely disgusted with myself. I got an out of the blue phone call about a job & even though I'm excited about starting which is tomorrow, I'm also very nervous (& guess what happened?) yep! U guessed it, I caved & bought a pack of smokes due to the nerves about this new job. I'm not trying 2 justify this in anyway please believe me when I say that but I don't handle stress well & those mongrel things r my crutch. However, if it's any consolation, I was that disgusted with myself 4 giving in that I've made an appointment with my doctor 4 a few days time so he can try me on champix. & so the cycle starts again but I'd rather be honest with everyone but most importantly I fell off the wagon but promise 2 get back on.

schedule 21 Feb 2018

Can't do cold turkey & can't get in to seey doc until Friday. As far as the champix go I am aware that there are potential side effects but I guess that rule applies with all meds. Everyone's different of course but the most common side effect appears to be nausea. Not pleasant but alot better than smoking. Will keep u posted on the outcome. How r u progressing?

Hi Mrs Brown ... I get notifications that there are comments or messages but have trouble finding them lol , im not too social media orientated ...

Hope your Doc can give you sound advice about cahmpix , it seems to be a quite discussed aid .. but like you say any temp side effects are lots better than smoking , as long as you remember it is only an aid and not a magical thing that will do all the stopping for you : ) So yeah, please keep me posted and chin up .. you have proven that you are not giving up this fight ! Success is near , you are jjust finding the right formula for yourself to kick the cigs ...im doing fine thanks , i have my moments lol today was the least depressed day so far which was nice , although to call what i have is depression is OTT , im just down in the dumps but pleased to have found out it is a common side effect and will pass soon , i sleep a lot and need a nap most days around 4 or 5 pm lol but just for 20 mins .. I guess my body is in shell shock after 35 years constant smoking and nicotine intake down to zero over night . I live in a very stressy world in South America ( Im English) and if I can quit here then I can stay quit anywhere : )
