USING CHAMPIX TO QUIT

I was a pack a day smoker for 45 years and for several years after being diagnosed with C.O.P.D I still refused to stop smoking. I have been having issues with high blood pressure for a while now and while discussing this issue with my doctor I had the revelation that now was the time to quit the cigarettes. I got a prescription for Champix and a lot of advice from him and talked to Quitline that day. I commenced to take the tablets the next morning. I smoked 2 or 3 cigarettes a day for the first three days but now have been completely cigarette free for 38 days. I very occasionally get the idea in my head that I want a smoke but those thoughts are gone within a few minutes. I have not had any major side affects from the Champix other than a few challenging dreams. I haven't had cigarettes on my mind at all other than those occasional unexpected cravings. It has been like that since the first week on Champix.
I had tried cold turkey and NRT numerous times before over the years which were always a complete failure. I am totally confident that I am now permanently a non-smoker. I would definitely recommend that anyone considering quitting have a talk to their doctor about using Champix to help them stop.

Hey Ronsta, well done!! It is sooo difficult to stop after so many years of smoking, I know as I too had smoked for 40 years. Champix was my get out of jail card also. Although I had used it previously without success. The thing is you really have to want to give up and that time came early one morning in November last year. My last smoke was at the end of the month so I have been smoke free from 1st Dec 2017. There have been many many times when I have had the urge but have resisted so far. It helps not having smokes in the house. I stopped using the Champix after a couple of weeks and so far so good. Your health is usually a good reason to stay smoke free. Have you noticed an improvement in your breathing? Well done to you!
