On guard

schedule 2 Dec 2017

Saturday 9.45am: It is now 36 hours since my last cigarette and I'm fine so far. I have been saying to myself "I am free" like a mantra, I have been eating heaps of super healthy food and drinking herbal tea, and I have successfully distracted myself by playing solitaire, doing a jigsaw (haven't done this since I was a kid!) and reading. So far so good. I am going out soon to go for a walk with my mother and I know that on my way home I will inevitably be tempted to buy a pack of fags. My plan is to put myself into adventure mode and treat the temptation as if it were some sort of attack ....

.... 3.45pm It is now 42 hours since I smoked my last cigarette and I am back home from my outing. I was tempted twice to buy cigarettes on the way home but I talked myself out of it (much easier than I expected); I also took deep breaths (such a simple solution!) Now I am home reading lots of stories on this website and others and eating goji berries - very happy and so much calmer as a non-drinking non-smoker even though it's early days.

schedule 3 Dec 2017

Great stuff Jellycake. You're right. All those things work. I drive home and pass the shop and think about when I used to stop. It was like a ritual.

I found the deep breaths worked too. Keep going.

I'm not into the super foods and still like a coffee and biscuit. My non smoking efforts however have been so good I'm hoping to get an invitation to join the 'Smoke Police' soon and I'll be disappointed if I don't. Haha. Good luck.

schedule 4 Dec 2017

2 days down Jellycake, I hope that your confidence is increasing, and that you feel that you are achieving freedom rather than missing out on anything.

I am two days behind you - you inspired me to quit again. Let's escape this time :)
