So I am going to quit tomorrow (Dec. 10/17 and this is my first attempt at quitting after having been a long time smoker of a pack a day. I see so many stories about people who have many, many attempts yet are still back here trying again. Is it possible to quit permanently first time trying?

I think it is possible to quit the first time, and that many people do just that. Knowledge is power in helping you to get away from the little monster (nicotine withdrawal) and the big monster (thinking that tobacco consumption is a treat). All the best for your quit. Delay, drink water, do something else (DDD). Cravings don't last very long, I find it's easier to do something else, and have a list of lots of things that I can achieve instead, like sewing a button on a blouse, etc, and get some of those little things done.

That's for the comments. I haven't been back since I wrote this back in early December but I am still smoke-free today so I guess something is working for me so far.
