I am now 19 days smoke free and feel a real improvement in my health. There is no more phlegm or constant coughing. Yay! My breathing has improved and I am finding I don't need to use the ventolin as often as I was previously when smoking (I was diagnosed with asthma a couple of years ago which we all know is related to smoking).

This is all about getting my life back and this website certainly helps. Loving the stories and experiences of others also.

Hello Puffer, i am two days behind you and reaping the same rewards. Great effort! I am feeling good about this quit and can't imagine going back. Thank goodness for that! I am also asthmatic and have been all of my life - I think I would have grown out of it if not a smoker.

All the best for your quit - don't let your guard down, please.

Don't think.that because you are feeling good that it would be okay to smoke just one or two. Wait five minutes and you will forget about it (that's me anyway)

Hey, Thanks weewillem. Always good to have someone to share the process with. I am finding there are a few times during the day I get the urge. Probably because of the time of year and stress that goes with it. The urges always pass and I am not tempted to start again or even to have one puff for two reasons. I really really like the fact my breathing has improved and more importantly there are no cigarettes in the house. I would have to go out and buy them and I know that would be a big mistake. So not tempted. I really enjoy being a non smoker also. I have wanted that for so many years but have always found excuses etc......I tried when my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer but that didn't deter me. She died a couple of years ago but not from the cancer. She had an aneurysm which was probably related to smoking as she was a smoker. She wanted to give up but couldn't find the will. I hope you are getting the support you need and that you have a wonderful Christmas!

Hey Red, Yes, I am doing fine., Still smoke free. However, my breathing has not improved as much as I had hoped. I was diagnosed with early stages emphysema around 6 months ago and thought giving up smoking would certainly improve my breathing. The first couple of weeks I did notice a marked improvement but have not since then. I am still waiting for the 30% improvement! I still can't believe I have given up though as I was one of those people who would have fought for the last cigarette in the house ha ha. Thanks for asking. I hope you are doing ok?
