I just quit!

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 1 Dec 2017

Well, I just had my last cigarette as my quit day is tomorrow, so I guess I have a bit of a head-start as it is only 9.45pm and usually I would be smoking well into the night. I have worked on my smoking psychology over the last few days so I am well and truly ready this time. I have decided not to entertain the usual fear and already feel free and excited about a smoke-free future. I quit alcohol 8 days ago (something I never thought I would be able to do) so I am going to think myself out of smoking in the same way and find lots of enjoyable things to do instead. Thanks for all of you who have commented and encouraged me over the last few weeks and thanks to the community for the wonderful stories!

Dear Jellycake, Congratulations for making the right choice. I have been smoke free for the past 45 days. It was only a bit difficult the first day. Don't think of the withdrawal symptoms. Just focus on your success and that you won't give up. This is a false friend making you think that you can't so your body will give you pain. Just relax don't think of yourself as smoker. Think of the positive things you are rewarding to yourself and your beloved ones. Take shower again and again. Ice cubes, lollipops and the like may help. Keep yourself busy and relaxed. Above all from the very minute you decide to quit, keep on track of your success minute after a minute, hour after an hour, day after day, week after a week, month after a month...

The trick is it is very easy when you know that you don't want to be slave for a false friend and you want to be a slave for your own health and the love and safety of the people around you, who matter most for you... you will never have a slip up. Keep on focused because it is like a terrorist. It doesn't want you to go easily unless it makes sure it kills you piece by piece.
