Getting Worse After a Month

Its been 36 days from the day I quit. Starting few days were very hard but what helped me was a positive mindset and healthy lifestyle change. Things started improving and I was feeling very positive. But from last two-three days, I feel irritable, moody, hungry and craving cigarettes. What surprises me most was that I was thinking I have passed the worst and why all of a sudden this is happening. I am not prepared how to handle this. I found this site and writing story to put into words what I am thinking and maybe someone can help me here. Why after a month things have turned upside down ?

Good job on your quit! Our quits are a process our minds constantly remember things and putting new habits in place is tricky at times. I’ve just past the 90 day mark and I too find it different now then in the beginning but I don’t want to smoke but I think I do sometimes sometimes one after the next I have a match game that helps me pass the time and get my mind on track I also think of what I want to with the money I’m saving by being smoke free. Keep at it get your mind on something else it helps a game a walk a book whatever it is you enjoy or want to try. You got this keep at it your doing great!

Thanks JD Keys.. It helps to know that someone else feel similar.. And yes, I will try to do more what I like more-reading and music.. And every time I am feel stressed on ds, I remember that there is no one cigarette, that thought helps.. Thanks again

Stick to it !!! You can do it!!!! I guess it will always be hard ... but focus on the positive things xxxx

Hi - you are doing great- 1 month is a big achievement. But Mr. Nico Teen wants to come for visits very irregularly. Suddenly the urge of smoking comes up, completley unexpected and strong. Look at some of the oldies here and their stories, sometimes a trigger comes several month after quitting. These are taff moments, as one thinks the worst is over. I actually was always quite desperate, feeling that the urges never go away.. But now afte 1 year of not smoking I can assure you that it does get better and better... These moments are coming less and less.. So it is worth fighting for it... No visit from Mr. Nico Teen... ; )

Andies I that's what I wanted to hear about the irregular urges. I have realized it was a 10 year habit and it will take some time to built a new habit and get over it. I am expecting after three to six months it will be better. And I am glad to hear that after a year, these moments are less and less. Thank you so much.

Flamingo yes that happened to me exactly been smoke free for 34 days with patches. The patches are great and work really well though they keep me awake and restless at night even though I take them off an hour before sleep. If I stop wearing patches for a few days I feel good then it hits me again withdrawals, sometimes it is still so hard even after 34 days. But I will get there know what your going through. I was smoked for 43 years.
