Still believe in miracles

762 days nicotine free and am still surprised that miracles can really happen. For 53 years apart from the odd sick day I smoked incessantly. For the last 30 years of the 53 years I hated myself for smoking and really was so badly addicted. Now I am free I still find it so exciting. Every time I'm at an event or out for dinner I watch the poor smokers who need their fix. Feeling so grateful.

Hi Dobbin. Agree with what you have posted. A few of us returning to this site help keep us going and give positive affirmation. It is lovely "at the top" . It is an easy slide to the bottom of the pack. After hundreds of days, we so know it. We also are thankful for affirmation from those who have turned a corner in their lives and persisted with a better choice.

Hi! Dobbin to quit smoking after 53 years is amazing and gives hope to others like me who have just started out on the Quit journey after 30 years

smoking 1 pack a day.

Like you I hated myself for smoking too, until realising I did not hate myself enough to kill myself from smoking, which is the reason I stopped. I was just not

into the self hate, hate yourself thing as i actually loved myself enough to live and to not die, so this is one reason I stopped, and Quit. My only regret now

is I did not Quit sooner, and put it off to avoid the withdrawl until learning about the methods of support to Quit so have found the nicotine patches helpful

that have kept me calm when I had felt i would explode or do a big rant when irritable and stuff like that. Currently I can only live and take one day at a time

which is what I am doing, have done, and will continue to do, and be happy and proud of myself as i persevere until the cravings pass, which realistically

will come and go even wanting to have a smoke, but that does not mean I have to go have a smoke, so I don't give into those cravings, ignore them,

and get up and go find something useful and constructive to do, like bake a batch of muffins, or prepare vegetable snacks, and store them in the fridge,

carrot sticks, celery sticks and kebobs to nibble on with cheese cubes.

Wow well done! Be very proud. If you can do it after 53 years then i can quit after my 9 years of addiction! Thank you for your inspiring words.

Stay stong, stay of those smokes. You got this.

👍well done Indigo8 on your 71 days of freedom. It’s fantastic when someone gets past the first couple of months nicotine free. The nicotine free days soon build up and the cravings become a thing of the past. Well done again.
