Just curious to know if anyone else has read Allen Carr's book, Easy way to stop smoking. Wanted to know what you thought of it and if it has helped you. I think it has helped me but also left me feeling a bit confused about the use of NRT's as he is against them. I am currently using patches to make the nicotine cravings a little less. I figure why should we put oursleves through torture of coming off the drug when there's help out their? I do recommend you read it as it has some very good hints and tips and gets you thinking. A friend has lent it to me as it helped her stop so it does work. The best point that has stuck in my head is that he says not to think of stopping smoking as 'giving up smoking' as you are actually not giving up, you are gaining so much from quiting. If anyone knows of anyother good stop smoking books id love to know.

Absolutely right Red67. You will not crave what you do not want and smoking does nothing for you.

Allan Carr's books on quitting smoking are full of logical thinking and can get you thinking and changing your views on smoking. I think that it is a must read for everyone regardless if just starting out or successfully quit. Power to keep the NOPE mantra is great knowledge to have.

Cigarettes are the most lethal way of consuming nicotine but e-cigs or e-vaping has not been around long enough to be deemed safe either. Recently some stories are out that cause concern.

I hope this time, a couple of years after your post, finds you a happy non-smoker. I would like to comment on your comment about being easier on NRT and not having to deal with nicotine withdrawl. The fact is that NRT stands for Nicotine Replacement Thereapies, which as the name suggests, contains nicotine, and keeps the addiction alive. Sooner or later you do have to go through that last stage, which we do first in cold turkey. 80% of the journey is the psychological part of breaking the habit and accepting life without the safety crutch. A cravings is a craving whether caused by nicotine or by our mind still feeling the "void" or need to fulfill the habit. The addiction of nicotine itself is just 20% and over in a few hours. I prefer to jump and get it over with rather than wade into cold waters inch by inch.

Never Give up Giving Up, and remember that you are giving up nothing but gaining immeasurable rewards and health by being a happy non-smoker.

Read Allan Carr, become healthier and wealthier and enjoy life!
