638 days

I haven't logged into this site for a very long time. I did today. I just realised that I am now 638 days without smoking and according to the calculator I have not spent in excess of $11,000 by not smoking. In the last two years I have been on five separate two-week overseas trips, something I would never have considered if I was smoking as I would never have had the money. The unbelievable cost of smoking was my big motivator for quitting but there have been so many other benefits.

Thanks Steve. It took me about 10 attempts to eventually quit (after 31 years of smoking) but I think I have it nailed now. During this final quit I was so angry and upset that the 'benefits' I got from smoking were being taken away from me. But I now realise the 'benefits' aren't really benefits. The cravings eventually subside and you do start to realise that the benefits of not smoking (e.g. better health, more money, better self-esteem etc.) far outweigh any benefit you can ever get from smoking (any benefit you get from smoking is really just a short-term fix until the next hit). I encourage anyone doubting they can quit for good to just stick with it. It took me attempt after attempt but you can get there with persistence. If you fail try again.

Hi Threds. Welcome to the land of the the determined quitters. 26 months and over $17000 for me, what can I say. Enjoy your dayly pay rise...
